About Cinema at the Walls

Every summer, Rome's Municipality VII transforms into a vast open-air arena for 'Cinema at the Walls...and beyond', a free film festival promoted by the Comitato Mura Latine. Enjoy twenty-one nights of great cinema under the stars, with films selected directly by citizens through an online vote. This grassroots, community-focused festival brings culture into local parks and public spaces—from the Aurelian Walls Park and Villa Fiorelli to Romanina—with free admission for all.

Open-air cinema chosen by the public

In the heart of the Roman summer, Municipality VII of Rome hosts Cinema at the Walls...and beyond, one of the capital's most beloved and original open-air film festivals. Promoted and organized by volunteers from the Comitato Mura Latine APS, the event turns local parks and gardens into genuine open-air arenas. Here, you can rediscover great classics and recent hits while sitting or lying on the grass with blankets and cushions, enjoying an informal and convivial atmosphere.

A grassroots, community festival

What makes this festival unique in Rome's summer landscape is the public-curated program: the films are selected each year through an online vote, which in 2026 involved approximately 2,500 citizens. Viewers vote within thematic categories—quality animation, inclusion, great classics, musicals, and fantasy cinema—creating a truly shared lineup. Before each screening, a self-produced short film about the neighborhood is presented, reconstructing scenes from famous Italian movies filmed on these very streets from the 1940s to today.

The three arenas of Municipality VII

The festival takes place across three different locations in the area, each with its own identity:

  • Aurelian Walls Park (via Tracia), the main arena at the foot of Rome's ancient walls;
  • Villa Fiorelli, in the Tuscolano district, a new venue introduced in 2026;
  • Parco dei Tricicli in Romanina, the established venue for late-summer evenings.

Screenings begin at 9:00 PM in June, July, and August, and at 8:30 PM in September, always with free admission.

A cultural project for the city

Founded in 2019 and reaching its eighth edition in 2026, the festival pursues a clear vision: bringing culture into everyday spaces, turning parks and public areas into opportunities for gathering and community. Supported by Municipality VII and under the patronage of Roma Capitale, Cinema at the Walls is now a staple of the Roman summer in Lazio, successfully blending quality cinema, popular participation, and local area enhancement.

Cinema at the Walls — edition 2026

The eighth edition of 'Cinema at the Walls...and beyond' brings 21 free screenings to the three arenas of Rome's Municipality VII, from June 23 to September 19, 2026. A lineup chosen by approximately 2,500 citizens via online voting, featuring great classics, animation, musicals, and cult films, with the addition of the new Villa Fiorelli venue in the Tuscolano district.

2026 Edition: the new Villa Fiorelli venue

In 2026, Cinema at the Walls celebrates its eighth edition with 21 evenings spread across the Aurelian Walls Park, the new Villa Fiorelli arena (Tuscolano district), and the Parco dei Tricicli in Romanina. The lineup, chosen by the public through online voting, ranges from auteur classics to major animated films, musicals, and comedies. Free admission for all screenings.
