Four days of Barolo wine, football, and culture in the heart of the Langhe
Barolo Boys in Fuorigioco is an event in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, that uniquely fuses the world of fine wine with the passion for football. The idea stems from the spirit of the historic Barolo Boys, the group of young winemakers who revolutionized Barolo production in the 1990s and were hailed by the New York Times as the protagonists of a small oenological revolution. From that legacy comes an event that gathers thousands of visitors in Monforte d'Alba each year for four days of tastings, sports, and storytelling.
The medieval village of Monforte d'Alba, with its famous Horszowski Auditorium in the Oratory of Saint Augustine and its charming squares, serves as the natural stage for the festival. The tastings focus on Barolo produced on the hills of Monforte, joined each year by guest wine regions from Italy and abroad. The common thread remains football, explored through evenings with major figures and sports journalists, and celebrated with an international tournament that brings teams of enthusiasts from Belgium, Denmark, and various parts of Italy to Piedmont.
The program alternates between social and cultural moments: dinners with producers, exclusive tastings in local cellars and restaurants, tournaments on local pitches, and meetings with legendary voices of Italian sports journalism. The atmosphere is that of the authentic Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where hospitality and gastronomic passion can be felt in every corner.
An event that encapsulates the spirit of Piedmontese food and wine and the community of Monforte d'Alba, capable of transforming the passion for Barolo and football into an appointment awaited by all of Europe.
