About Badiamusica

Badiamusica is the summer chamber and sacred music festival of Alta Badia, in the province of Bolzano. In San Martino in Badia, its concerts resonate within the halls of the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor, the ancient castle housing the museum of Ladin culture. Founded in 2001, the festival offers a program between July and August spread across the Val Badia, featuring ensembles, quartets, duos, and trios from Italy and Europe. Admission is free.

A classical music festival in the Dolomites

Badiamusica is the summer chamber and sacred music festival of Alta Badia. Established in 2001, it has grown over two decades to become a staple of the Dolomite summer. The festival is itinerant: concerts are not held in a single venue but travel through the villages of Val Badia, occupying churches, castles, event halls, and music schools. In San Martino in Badia (San Martin de Tor in Ladin, St. Martin in Thurn in German), a municipality in the province of Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige, the recurring venue is the evocative Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor.

The Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor

Ciastel de Tor is a medieval castle overlooking the valley that today houses the Museum Ladin, dedicated to the language, history, and culture of the Ladin people of the Dolomites. Its halls, with their stone walls and intimate atmosphere, provide a unique acoustic setting for chamber music: a dialogue between Ladin heritage, the alpine landscape, and the notes of the concerts. It is here that the festival hosts some of its most intimate and appreciated performances.

A program between tradition and modernity

The Badiamusica program ranges from the Baroque repertoire to sacred music, from the great classics of the Viennese tradition to contemporary wind and brass ensembles and the rediscovery of forgotten female composers. Over time, San Martino in Badia has hosted wind quartets, string trios, and ensembles that have successfully engaged with the museum's architecture. Each concert features a theme, often inspired by nature and the relationship between music and landscape—a philosophy dear to the festival's founders.

Free admission and Ladin culture

One of the hallmarks of Badiamusica is free admission to all concerts, making classical music accessible to both residents and tourists. Attending a concert at Ciastel de Tor also means discovering the Ladin culture of Val Badia, amidst centuries-old traditions, the UNESCO World Heritage landscapes of the Dolomites, and the identity of a community that has preserved its language for centuries.

Badiamusica — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Badiamusica brings two free concerts to the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor in San Martino in Badia: on July 16, the Cuartet Mescedà with the program "Perceptions of Nature," and on August 21, the Ensemble Chromoson with "Sound Spaces in the Museum." Both events are part of the festival's program across Alta Badia.

The 2026 edition of Badiamusica features two chamber music concerts at the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor in San Martino in Badia. On July 16 at 5:00 PM, the spotlight is on the Cuartet Mescedà, a young wind quartet from Val Gardena—Katharina Lardschneider (flute), Maria Senoner (horn), Alex Designori (saxophone), and Filip Senoner (tuba)—with the program "Perceptions of Nature," a musical journey inspired by the natural world.

On August 21, it is the turn of the Ensemble Chromoson with "Sound Spaces in the Museum," a project that transforms the museum's halls into a sonic body, featuring premieres of contemporary composers. Both concerts are part of the festival's summer program, spread across the villages of Alta Badia. Admission is free.
