Vinchio's asparagus meets Barbera wine amidst the UNESCO hills of Monferrato
Every spring, the village of Vinchio in the province of Asti celebrates its most precious product with Asparago diVino, a food and wine festival that turns Piazza San Marco into the heart of the celebration. The event is dedicated to the Vinchio Saracen asparagus, a niche variety recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (P.A.T.). Grown on the sandy slopes of the local hills, this unique soil gives the asparagus its distinct flavor and exceptional quality.
In Vinchio, asparagus is never enjoyed alone: the festival is the perfect occasion for this vegetable to meet the great local wines, from Barbera to the reds of local wineries. Tastings are curated by regional producers, and the menu ranges from tagliatelle and grilled asparagus rolls to strawberries prepared with Barbera wine. Food stalls are run by local committees and Pro Loco associations, offering traditional recipes where asparagus is always the star ingredient.
Vinchio is located in the heart of Monferrato, a wine landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival is more than just a culinary experience: the day begins with a walk through the UNESCO hills—also accessible by e-bikes available for rent in the square—accompanied by the Nordic Walking Terre di Aleramo group. The Belvedere offers an unbeatable view of the vineyards, making it the perfect spot for a toast overlooking the landscape.
Asparago diVino also features live music, DJ sets, and children's entertainment, capturing the convivial spirit typical of Piedmontese festivals. The event requires no reservations and welcomes both food lovers and those looking for a day trip immersed in nature, culture, and the flavors of Piedmont. It is an appointment that perfectly captures the identity of Vinchio and the entire Asti Monferrato region in a single day.
The entire event takes place in Piazza San Marco, in the center of Vinchio (AT), in the Asti Monferrato area.
By car: Vinchio can be reached from Asti or Nizza Monferrato via the scenic hilly roads of Monferrato. The most convenient train station is Nizza Monferrato, from which you can continue by car.
No reservations are required for the food stalls. Comfortable clothing is recommended for the hill walk; electric bicycles are available for rent in the square. In some editions, purchases are made using a local currency (the "Asparagino"), which can be exchanged 1:1 with the Euro.
