Enlightened by Art, Food, and Music in the capital of ceramics

The Art Food Festival is a three-day event held in Santo Stefano di Camastra, a small town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Messina, at the heart of Sicily's ceramic tradition. With the subtitle "Enlightened by Art, Food, and Music," the event offers an authentic experiential journey that combines the local ceramic craftsmanship with the region's food and wine excellence, all accompanied by live music. The heart of the festival is Piazza Duca di Camastra, which transforms into a large open-air workshop alongside other spots in the historic center.
Santo Stefano di Camastra is one of the three historic centers of Sicilian artistic ceramics, alongside Caltagirone and Sciacca. During the festival, special stations allow visitors to "get their hands dirty" and experiment with clay, featuring demonstrations of ancient shaping techniques: the creation of jars, catusi (traditional terracotta pipes), and decorative pine cones. The Civic Museum of Ceramics, housed in the historic Palazzo Trabia, stays open until late in the evening to allow visitors to admire the majolica collections.
The town's streets host a street food trail and tasting sessions dedicated to typical Sicilian dishes and culinary creations reinterpreted by expert chefs. The public can savor the gastronomic excellence of the Nebrodi coast in a festive atmosphere that lasts until late at night.
Every evening is animated by concerts, DJ sets, and shows that turn the village into an open-air theater, with a variety of musical genres across different stages set up in the squares. The atmosphere heats up until late at night, with hours extending well past midnight.
The Art Food Festival is designed for audiences of all ages: pottery workshops and tastings are complemented by recreational activities and entertainment. The event, promoted by the Audentes Cultural Association and supported by the Municipality of Santo Stefano di Camastra, celebrates the identity of a village that has made ceramics its symbol, offering residents and visitors a chance to rediscover the art, flavors, and conviviality of the Messina region.
The 2026 edition of the Art Food Festival is planned for Santo Stefano di Camastra, but as of today, the organizers have not yet communicated the official dates or the full program. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place between late May and early June, reprising the "Enlightened by Art, Food, and Music" formula with pottery workshops, street food trails, tastings, and live music evenings. Information will be updated as soon as the Audentes Cultural Association announces the schedule.
Santo Stefano di Camastra is located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina, along the SS113 road. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Sant'Agata di Militello or Santo Stefano di Camastra-Mistretta exit. By train, the Santo Stefano di Camastra-Mistretta station is served by the Messina-Palermo line.
Admission to the event is free; tastings and street food are paid for according to the prices set by individual stands.
Events take place mainly in the evening and at night: it is advisable to book accommodation in the surrounding area well in advance, given the overlap with the spring tourist season.
