A village of taste in the shadow of the aqueducts

The Appia Joy Park Street Food is the Roman stop of the TTS Food circuit, which for the occasion sets up its traveling village inside a park immersed in greenery, in the Quarto Miglio neighborhood, on the southern outskirts of the Municipality of Rome (Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio). The setting is one of the most evocative chosen by the organizers: hills, tall trees, and views of the ancient Roman aqueducts, just minutes from the Appia Antica road. It is a formula that works because it flips the usual idea of urban street food: here there is no asphalt or traffic, but lawns, shade, and open-air tables.

Twenty street chefs, over fifty specialties

The heart of the event is the twenty selected street chefs arranged along the park's paths, each with their own mobile kitchen. The gastronomic offering spans Italy and the world: from Sicilian arancini to Puglian bombette, from gourmet sandwiches to traditional fried foods, up to international incursions with Mexican burritos and tacos, Greek pita and souvlaki, Spanish paella, Argentine meat, and American BBQ. There is no shortage of options for those with specific dietary needs, with vegan dishes and gluten-free options, including arepas, and a sweet finish provided by Sicilian cannoli.

Next to the kitchens is the beverage area, with craft beer—in past editions, an unfiltered Bavarian label produced exclusively for the circuit—cocktails, and drinks served with low-environmental-impact packaging.

Not just food: the park's attractions

The peculiarity of this event is that the village of taste coexists with the permanent attractions of Appia Joy Park, which remain open during the event (for a fee, with a separate ticket):

• Adventure park with tree-top courses and zip lines, on multiple levels of difficulty
• Dinosaur exhibition, with about thirty life-size reproductions scattered in the woods
• Butterfly House, a tropical greenhouse with live butterflies
• Vintage market with retro items, collectibles, and small antiques

It is this combination that makes the event different from other Roman street food festivals: you can spend the entire day in the park, alternating between dining and activities for children or walks in the greenery.

An appointment in the May Day calendar

The event was born as a special edition linked to the May Day long weekend, when Rome empties out towards the sea and the city's green areas become the protagonists. In the 2025 edition, the village opened its doors at 11:00 AM on May 1st and remained active until Sunday, May 4th, with continuous hours from 11:00 AM to midnight: four full days, with free admission to the park and the gastronomic area.

The TTS Food circuit in Rome and Lazio

TTS Food (Mela Eventi) is one of the most active operators in the sector in the Capital: throughout the year, it brings its village to numerous Roman neighborhoods and various cities in Lazio, from Tivoli to Anguillara Sabazia, from Civitavecchia to Terracina. Each stop maintains the same layout—free entry, selection of mobile kitchens, table area, background music—but the atmosphere changes radically depending on the location that hosts it. The Appia Joy Park stop remains, for its natural setting and spaciousness, one of the most appreciated by Roman families.

Why it's worth the trip

Those arriving from outside Rome will find here a different way to experience the Appia area: an outdoor lunch or dinner a few kilometers from the Appia Antica Regional Park, the catacombs, and the Park of the Aqueducts, with the possibility of combining a morning archaeological visit with an afternoon gastronomic break. The advice is to arrive early on holidays, when attendance is higher and shaded seating runs out quickly.
