About AperOlivi – La Fett'unta

Every late June, the ancient olive grove in the Vico area, at the foot of the village of Montecatini Alto, hosts AperOlivi – La Fett'unta 2.0: a convivial open-air dinner where guests relax on blankets and hay bales with a panoramic view of the Valdinievole. Organized by the Fratres Blood Donors Group in collaboration with Slow Food Valdinievole, the event offers a modern take on the traditional Fett'unta Festival, celebrating local extra virgin olive oil through tastings, typical Tuscan products, and live music. It is an event that blends taste, landscape, and solidarity, while promoting blood donation.

AperOlivi – La Fett'unta 2.0: the Tuscan festival that turns into a sunset picnic

AperOlivi – La Fett'unta 2.0 is a contemporary reimagining of the traditional Fett'unta Festival, held every late June in the ancient olive grove in the Vico area, on the slopes of the medieval village of Montecatini Alto, in the municipality of Montecatini-Terme, in the province of Pistoia, in the heart of Tuscany. The event transforms a classic village festival into a convivial open-air dinner, where guests settle on blankets and hay bales among the olive trees, enjoying a panoramic view that stretches across the Valdinievole.

A modern festival born from solidarity

The event is organized by the Fratres Blood Donors Group of Montecatini Alto, in collaboration with Slow Food Valdinievole, and was created with a dual purpose: to showcase extra virgin olive oil as a local specialty and to promote the culture of blood donation. Proceeds support the association's activities, giving the evening a significance that goes beyond simple culinary pleasure.

The ritual of fett'unta and local flavors

The undisputed star is the fett'unta, a slice of toasted Tuscan bread rubbed with garlic and generously drizzled with freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil. Upon reservation, guests receive a picnic basket filled with the flavors of the Tuscan peasant tradition:

  • Fett'unta with local extra virgin olive oil
  • Local cured meats and cheeses
  • Panzanella, the classic Tuscan summer dish
  • Porchetta
  • Dessert and seasonal fruit

Vegetarian and gluten-free menus are also available upon reservation, and admission is free for children aged 0 to 5.

Tastings, OIL BAR, and live music

The evening is enhanced by the food and wine offerings of our partners: the Slow Food Valdinievole stand features an OIL BAR for a sensory experience dedicated to oils and Slow Food Presidia, while the Cantina Cooperativa Vinicola Chianti Montalbano manages the tasting of local wines. Saturday evenings are accompanied by live music and displays by local artisans and artists, completing the festival's relaxed atmosphere.

An experience between nature and tradition

More than just a festival, AperOlivi is an invitation to rediscover the bond between Montecatini Alto and its countryside: dining at sunset under centuries-old olive trees, with the Valdinievole landscape bathed in warm colors, is an experience that captures the food, wine, and landscape identity of this corner of Tuscany.

AperOlivi – La Fett'unta — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of AperOlivi – La Fett'unta 2.0 is announced over four evenings, Monday June 22nd and Tuesday June 23rd, Monday June 29th and Tuesday June 30th, again in the ancient olive grove of Vico in Montecatini Alto. The convivial dinner setup with a picnic basket and the format that characterized previous editions are confirmed. As this is a recurring event, it is recommended to check dates and the final program on the organization's social channels before booking.

For the 2026 edition, AperOlivi – La Fett'unta 2.0 is scheduled in the olive grove in the Vico area, in Montecatini Alto. Extra virgin olive oil tastings with Slow Food Valdinievole, wines from the Cantina Cooperativa Chianti Montalbano, and live music on Saturday evenings are expected.
