About Valdarno Livestock Fair

Every spring, Rignano sull'Arno, in the heart of the Florentine Valdarno, revives one of its most cherished traditions: the Ancient Valdarno Livestock Fair. For two days, the Via Roma sports facilities and the River Park transform into a bustling rural village, featuring an agricultural market, livestock exhibits, falconry, educational workshops for children, wine and local food tastings, dog demonstrations, and the evocative Palio delle Tre Corone historical pageant. An event that celebrates the excellence of Tuscan animal husbandry and the deep bond between the territory and its countryside.

A rural tradition in the heart of the Florentine Valdarno

The Ancient Valdarno Livestock Fair is one of the most deeply rooted events in the calendar of Rignano sull'Arno, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Florence overlooking the hills of the upper Valdarno. Now in its 35th edition, the fair is rooted in the ancient agricultural and livestock vocation of this corner of Tuscany, where farming and field work have marked the lives of the community for centuries.

Promoted by the Municipality of Rignano sull'Arno under the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the event takes place between the Via Roma sports facilities and the River Park, two spaces that come alive for an entire weekend with stalls, pens, food stands, and activities for all ages.

Animals, agricultural market, and farming life

The heart of the fair is the livestock showcase, featuring farm animals that attract enthusiasts and curious visitors alike, alongside the agricultural market at the River Park, where local producers and companies present the best of the Valdarno countryside. There are also re-enactments of ancient crafts, such as sheep shearing, which transport visitors back to a time when rural knowledge was passed down from generation to generation.

Shows, falconry, and historical pageant

Among the most anticipated events are the falconry show, performed by falconers in costume, and the Palio delle Tre Corone historical pageant, a parade with animals accompanied by folk groups and a marching band that winds through the town center. Dog demonstrations, including truffle hunting trials, rally obedience, and sheepdog trials, add spectacle and technical skill to an already rich program.

For families and children

The fair pays great attention to the little ones, with educational workshops on themes such as cheesemaking, bees, weaving, and drawing, as well as pony rides and kite making. The activities focus on the environment, sustainability, and the relationship between man and nature, values that have always characterized this event.

Flavors and territory

There is also space for food and wine, with the fair's restaurant, tastings of wines and local products, and the "Degustando in Off Road" tour, which takes participants to discover the most picturesque companies and locations in the area. Between excursions along the cycle path and evening walks toward Incisa, the Ancient Valdarno Livestock Fair is much more than a fair: it is a village festival that unites tradition, community, and a love for the Tuscan countryside.
