The Alpine community lunch, featuring steaming beans and friendship in Brusnengo, Biella
The Alpine Bean Festival of Brusnengo and Curino is one of the most anticipated events in the winter calendar of Brusnengo, a small town in the Province of Biella, Piedmont. Organized by the Brusnengo and Curino Alpine Group, the event takes place between late winter and early spring, around the time of Carnival, transforming the group's headquarters on Via Forte into a major meeting point for the entire community.
At the heart of the festival is, of course, the fagiolata: a humble yet substantial dish of Piedmontese folk cuisine, prepared according to the Alpine recipe with slowly cooked beans, pork rinds, cured meats, and all the traditional flavors. The Alpini, busy at the large cauldrons since the early morning, tend to the cooking for hours until the aroma fills the town streets. The day unfolds in two parts: the takeaway distribution of the bean stew for those who wish to enjoy it at home, and the community lunch served at the group's headquarters, where everyone sits down to eat together.
The Alpine Bean Festival is not just a gastronomic occasion. It is a moment for Brusnengo and neighboring Curino to reconnect, where generations mingle and the spirit of service and friendship typical of the Alpini becomes tangible. Proceeds from the event are often used to support the group's activities and local solidarity initiatives, in keeping with the best traditions of the 'black feathers'.
The bean festival is just one stop in the Alpine year in Brusnengo and Curino: the group organizes various celebrations and gatherings throughout the months, such as the Alpine Easter Monday, confirming a deep and continuous bond with the local community. Participating in the Alpine Bean Festival means experiencing an authentic piece of Biella culture, far from the crowds and close to the people.
