The South Tyrolean stage of the Alpine Motocross Championship on the sandy track of the Sportzone Grube in Val di Vizze.
The Alpencup Motocross Pfitsch is the two-wheeled off-road event that brings Val di Vizze (Pfitsch) to life every year. Located in the municipality of the same name in the Upper Isarco Valley (Wipptal), in the Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, the race takes place at the Sportzone Grube. Here, a natural, entirely sandy track—approximately 1.1 km long—is considered highly technical and challenging, featuring jumps, fast corners, and rhythm changes that test riders of all levels.
The event is one of the rounds of the Alpencup, the international Alpine motocross championship that visits various locations across Austria, Germany, and Italy. The event is organized with great dedication by ASV Pfitscher Eisbär (Pfitscher Amateursportverein), the local sports association that has been managing events for years thanks to the work of numerous volunteers. The club's motocross section has been bringing races to the valley since 2015: first as part of the so-called Kini Alpencup, and since the 2023 reorganization, under the Alpencup brand.
The Pfitsch stage regularly attracts several hundred riders—around 470 in the 2025 edition—hailing from South Tyrol, the rest of Italy, Germany, and Austria. The races are divided into numerous categories, with fourteen in the last edition, open to a wide age range and motorcycles from 50cc to 500cc. Typical classes in the program include:
Beyond the races, which are usually spread over the entire weekend with practice sessions, qualifying, and final heats, the Alpencup Motocross Pfitsch offers a festive atmosphere enjoyed by enthusiasts and families alike. Spacious paddocks welcome riders trackside, while food and drink services featuring local specialties keep spirits high throughout the day. Side entertainment, which in past editions has included attractions and evening festivities, rounds out an event that perfectly blends motorsport with community life in one of South Tyrol's most picturesque valleys.
The Sportzone Grube can be reached in about twenty minutes from the Vipiteno/Sterzing motorway exit by heading up Val di Vizze. The alpine backdrop, with pastures and the peaks of the Zillertal chain, makes this stage one of the most distinctive in the Alpencup calendar and a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Wipptal.
The South Tyrolean stage of the Alpencup returns to Val di Vizze (Pfitsch), in the Province of Bolzano, on the weekend of September 26-27, 2026. As usual, the races will take place on the natural sandy track of the Sportzone Grube, a technical 1.1 km circuit, organized by ASV Pfitscher Eisbär.
The detailed program—racing categories, heat times, and registration opening—has not yet been published and will be released by the organizers on the official website alpencupmx.eu and social media channels in the weeks preceding the event.
The Sportzone Grube is located in Val di Vizze/Pfitsch, about 20 minutes from the A22 motorway exit of Vipiteno/Sterzing, heading up the valley. By train, the reference station is Vipiteno/Sterzing, followed by a short drive or local bus.
The races take place over the entire weekend, starting in the morning with heats distributed across both days. Information on entry, rider registration, and the detailed program can be found on the official website alpencupmx.eu and the Alpencup Motocross social media channels.
Comfortable clothing suitable for the mountains is recommended; there are large paddocks and a trackside refreshment area. Booking accommodation in the Vipiteno/Val di Vizze area during race weekends is highly recommended.
