Three days of livestock, tastings, and workshops at the Foro Boario in Gangi
Every year, the Foro Boario in Gangi, a village in the Province of Palermo perched in the Madonie mountains, becomes the beating heart of Sicilian livestock farming for three days. The Agro-Zootechnical Exhibition, held alongside the Madonie Wild Boar Festival, is organized by the Sant'Isidoro Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Gangi, attracting breeders, producers, and visitors from across central-western Sicily.
The technical core of the event features inter-provincial cattle competitions for the Limousine and Charolaise breeds, as well as sheep competitions dedicated to the prized Valle del Belice breed. Dozens of farms representing the provinces of Palermo, Agrigento, Ragusa, Siracusa, and Enna showcase livestock, agricultural machinery, and Sicilian handicrafts. The event also hosts discussions like the "Zootechnics Focus," bringing together experts and institutional representatives to discuss the sector's future and development.
The event is crowned by the Wild Boar Festival, featuring tastings of traditional dishes made with Madonie wild boar, accompanied by live music throughout the evenings. It is a unique opportunity to discover one of the region's culinary gems, deeply rooted in local hunting and farming traditions.
There is plenty for children to enjoy, with educational workshops such as "A hen can..." on poultry farming and the egg cycle, "The milk cycle" with cheesemaking demonstrations and tastings, the creative activity "Narrating Petals," and the "Scuttling through the Foro Boario" parade with awards. Through traditional cheesemaking demonstrations, presentations of the Sicilian horse, and equestrian shows, the event introduces visitors of all ages to the value of biodiversity and rural labor.
Recognized as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy," Gangi provides the perfect backdrop for an event that celebrates the agricultural and zootechnical identity of the Madonie Park. Over the years, the exhibition has become a benchmark for the agri-food sector in inland Sicily.
The eleventh edition of the Agro-Zootechnical Exhibition and the fourth Madonie Wild Boar Festival took place at the Foro Boario in Gangi, organized by the Sant'Isidoro Association with the Municipality of Gangi. A new feature this year was the shift from the usual autumn dates to spring. Three days dedicated to the livestock of the Madonie, featuring livestock competitions, family activities, and traditional gastronomy.
