About Agogna River Walk

The Agogna River Walk is a non-competitive running and walking event held in Caltignaga, in the province of Novara, as part of the popular Gamba d'Oro circuit of Upper Piedmont. Starting from the Municipal Sports Field on Via dello Sport, it offers a flat 10 km route along the banks of the Agogna River, winding through woods and countryside, as well as a shorter 2 km track perfect for families and children. It is a beloved event for runners, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts who bring the town's streets to life every spring.

A walk between nature and running tradition

The Agogna River Walk is one of the most popular running events in the spring calendar of Upper Piedmont. It takes place in Caltignaga, a small town of about 2,500 inhabitants in the province of Novara, in the heart of the Novara plains. It is a non-competitive walk open to everyone, from seasoned runners to families with children, attracting hundreds of participants from the Novara and Vercelli areas every year.

The route along the Agogna River

The main course stretches for approximately 10 km along the banks of the Agogna river, from which the event takes its name, alternating between woodland paths and stretches of open countryside. The route is almost entirely flat, with no significant elevation changes, making it suitable for both those who want to run and those who prefer a leisurely walk while enjoying the scenery. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, there is also a shortened 2 km route, ideal for families, children, and casual walkers.

A stage of the Gamba d'Oro circuit

The Agogna River Walk is part of the famous Gamba d'Oro circuit, a series of non-competitive running events established in 1974 that takes place primarily in the provinces of Novara and Vercelli. The circuit includes dozens of stages held from March to October and awards points to participants for the final season standings, with prizes for both teams and individual athletes. Caltignaga traditionally hosts two stages of the circuit: the spring walk along the Agogna and an autumn race.

A local Piedmontese event

The event is organized by local sports groups with the support of the Municipality of Caltignaga and local associations. Beyond the sporting aspect, the day is a celebration and a gathering for the community, with refreshment points along the route and at the finish line. The start is scheduled for the morning at the Municipal Sports Field on Via dello Sport, and the entry fee is symbolic, making it an accessible event for all.
