The final leg of the most beloved running circuit in Upper Piedmont, held in Caltignaga
The Gamba d'Oro Final Race is the event that concludes every autumn in Caltignaga, in the province of Novara, the most well-known non-competitive running circuit in north-eastern Piedmont. The Gamba d'Oro circuit brings together dozens of Sunday walks and runs distributed between the provinces of Novara and Vercelli, and this event closes the long season that, stage by stage, accompanies runners and walkers from early spring until the end of October.
The philosophy of the Gamba d'Oro is clear: the run is non-competitive and designed for anyone who loves moving in the open air, from the most trained runners to families with children. In Caltignaga, you can choose between the 7 km long course and the 2 km short course, with a maximum time set to allow everyone to complete the route at their own pace. The start is from Via dello Sport, in the heart of the village overlooking the banks of the Agogna, and winds through the roads and countryside surrounding this small municipality in the Novara plains.
Born in the seventies, the Gamba d'Oro circuit is a true institution for the amateur running movement in Upper Piedmont and has crossed the half-century mark. The final stage in Caltignaga is not just a race: it is the moment to sum up the entire season, with awards dedicated to the most regular participants and the largest groups that have followed the circuit from Sunday to Sunday. It is a festive occasion and a gathering for the entire large community of local walkers.
A municipality in the province of Novara located along the course of the Agogna stream, Caltignaga offers a typically Piedmontese plain landscape, made of fields, irrigation ditches, and farmhouses. The Final Race is an opportunity to discover this quiet corner of the Novara area in good company, combining physical activity with the pleasure of a day outdoors and the conviviality that has always characterized Gamba d'Oro events.
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Caltignaga hosts the Final Race of the Gamba d'Oro circuit, the last of the numerous stages scheduled between the province of Novara and that of Vercelli. The 2026 edition has a special value: the circuit is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its birth, an occasion that makes the final test of the season even more significant.
The walk is non-competitive and open to everyone, with two distances to choose from: the 7 km long course and the 2 km short course. The meeting point and start are in Via dello Sport, with the start set for 09:00 and a maximum time to complete the route. The final stage is traditionally accompanied by the end-of-circuit awards ceremony.
The detailed program for the day will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event. The usual structure of the stage includes:
