A day with the big cats and wildlife at Parco La Torbiera, behind closed doors
The Wildlife Photography Workshop takes place at Parco Faunistico La Torbiera, located on Via delle Torbiere in Agrate Conturbia, a small town in the Province of Novara, nestled in the heart of Piedmont among the hills leading to Lake Maggiore. This is not a typical local festival, but a specialized, limited-enrollment experience designed for nature photography lovers who want to get up close to big cats and wildlife in a privileged setting.
The park was established as a center for the breeding and study of endangered species, with a special focus on Italian and European fauna, particularly big cats. Set within a natural landscape of peat bogs and woodlands, it has been a landmark for conservation and environmental education in the Novara area for decades. During the workshop, the park opens exclusively to participants during hours when it is closed to the public, offering early access to photograph the animals without the presence of other visitors.
The day is led by an expert photographer and a nature guide, who accompany participants through various areas of the park, including restricted zones not normally accessible to the public. The goal is twofold: to approach the subjects in total tranquility and to grow from a technical perspective.
The workshop is held on three dates in 2026 — March 21, May 2, and September 26 — spread across spring and early autumn to offer diverse lighting conditions and atmospheres. It is an ideal opportunity for both experienced wildlife photographers and enthusiasts looking to take their skills to the next level, in an intimate setting in direct contact with the nature of Piedmont.
The three 2026 sessions share the same intense and well-structured format, designed to make the most of the light and the exclusive access to Parco Faunistico La Torbiera in Agrate Conturbia.
The participation fee is €60 and includes access to the park behind closed doors, the accompaniment of an expert photographer and a nature guide, and entry to restricted areas. In case of bad weather, the activity is postponed to the following Saturday.
Throughout the day, techniques for capturing moving subjects and managing light and depth of field are addressed. Nikon and Canon lenses are available to try, subject to availability.
