Celebrating the iconic Canavese pastry under the porticoes of Agliè
The Agliè Torcetto Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events in the Canavese and the entire Piedmont region. For over thirty years, the village of Agliè, in the Province of Turin, has dedicated an entire spring weekend to its signature sweet: the torcetto, a small, sugary breadstick with a distinctive teardrop-shaped twist. Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the town to rediscover the authentic flavors of Canavese confectionery culture.
Made with simple, genuine ingredients like flour, butter, and sugar, the torcetto was born from the wisdom of village bakeries and is deeply rooted in the rural traditions of the Canavese. The dough is hand-worked, folded at the ends to achieve its typical shape, and baked until golden and crumbly. During the festival, you can enjoy them fresh from the oven in their many variations, paired with wines from the best local cellars.
The event traditionally spans two days. Saturday evening kicks off with the Ballando e Gustando (Dancing and Tasting) dinner, hosted in the Franco Paglia multipurpose hall, where the Pro Loco's cooking meets orchestral music for a festive evening. Sunday is the heart of the festival: from the morning, stalls fill Piazza Castello and the historic porticoes, with exhibitors, artisans, and producers offering torcetti, traditional sweets, cheeses, cured meats, and Canavese wines.
Sunday afternoon offers the most vibrant atmosphere, with the Street Brass Band playing music throughout the squares and porticoes, and traditional Occitan dances in Piazza Umberto I. It is an event that weaves together gastronomy, popular culture, and entertainment, turning Agliè into a grand open-air living room for families, tourists, and fans of local traditions.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Agliè, an 'Orange Flag' village of the Italian Touring Club, famous for its magnificent Ducal Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Savoy residence. Organized by the Pro Loco of Agliè with the patronage of the Municipality and numerous guest towns from the Canavese, the event has held the Quality Event mark promoted by UNPLI since 2024, a recognition that certifies its authenticity and value in promoting the Piedmontese territory.
By car: Agliè is accessible from the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (Scarmagno or San Giorgio Canavese exit), in the heart of the Canavese, about 40 km from Turin. By train: Rivarolo Canavese station on the Turin-Pont Canavese line, with a connecting bus service.
Events are held in the historic center of Agliè: Piazza Castello, the porticoes, Piazza Umberto I, and the Franco Paglia multipurpose hall for the Saturday dinner.
Access to the market and Sunday activities is free. The Saturday dance dinner requires payment (around 25 euros) and booking is required. For information and reservations: Pro Loco of Agliè, tel. +39 393 8921826 or +39 0124 330335, [email protected].
