About Iris and Arancino Festival

Every autumn, coinciding with All Souls' Day, Tremestieri Etneo celebrates two icons of Sicilian gastronomy: the iris, a soft fried pastry filled with ricotta or chocolate cream, and the arancino, crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. Held at the Salvo D'Acquisto Municipal Amphitheatre on the slopes of Mount Etna, the festival brings together food stalls, local wines, a traditional market, live music, and dance, showcasing the typical products and craftsmanship of the Etna region.

A festival of taste on the slopes of Mount Etna

The Iris, Arancino, Wine and Craft Festival is one of the most beloved food and wine events in the Etna area. It takes place in Tremestieri Etneo, a town in the Metropolitan City of Catania, in the heart of eastern Sicily, within the Salvo D'Acquisto Municipal Amphitheatre. The festival was created to celebrate two authentic symbols of Sicilian cuisine and to promote local traditions and craftsmanship.

Iris and arancino, the stars of the table

At the heart of the festival are two highly popular specialties. The iris is a soft pastry, fried or baked, filled with ricotta cream, custard, or chocolate. The arancino (masculine, as per the Catanese tradition) is a delicious rice ball stuffed with meat sauce, cheese, pistachio, and other delights, fried until golden and crispy. Alongside these, food stalls offer typical local products, accompanied by excellent local wines and traditional drinks.

The market and local crafts

The event takes place between late October and early November, coinciding with the All Souls' Day (Festa dei Morti), a deeply felt tradition in Sicily. For the occasion, a traditional market is set up, with stalls opening at 10:00 AM, where visitors can find handicrafts, toys for children, and various goods. It is a precious opportunity to discover the excellent craftsmanship of the Etna region.

Shows, music, and folklore

In addition to the culinary offerings, the days are enlivened by shows, live music, folklore, and group dances. Past editions have featured dance groups, bands, tribute acts, culinary masterclasses, exhibitions, and parades, in a program designed for the enjoyment of the whole family.

A local event

Promoted by the Municipality of Tremestieri Etneo, the festival has established itself as one of the highlights of the local autumn calendar, attracting thousands of visitors and showcasing the bond between culinary tradition, community, and the identity of the Etna territory. An unmissable stop for those who love the flavors of Sicily and the atmosphere of village festivals.
