A tribute to Abruzzese sweetness

The Abruzzese Dessert Festival takes place in Fallascoso, a picturesque hamlet within the municipality of Torricella Peligna, in the province of Chieti (Abruzzo). Launched in 2024, the event has quickly secured its place in the local summer calendar, filling the village's stone alleys with the irresistible aroma of traditional regional pastries. It is a young but heartfelt celebration that honors Abruzzese confectionery heritage and the community's deep connection to its family recipes.

Traditional sweets from the Chieti region

The heart of the festival is, naturally, the traditional desserts featured at the stalls throughout the village. The Chieti province boasts a rich confectionery history, and in Fallascoso, you can discover many of its finest specialties:

• Bocconotti, small shortcrust pastry cases filled with almonds, chocolate, and eggs, typical of the Frentana area;
• Sise delle monache, the famous Guardiagrele treat consisting of three soft mounds of sponge cake filled with cream;
• Ferratelle (or neole), thin, crispy wafers cooked on hot irons, popular throughout the region;
• Fiadoni in their sweet version, a staple of family kitchens in the Chieti area.

Wine, music, and conviviality

Beyond the tastings, the festival features local wine and live music, which bring the evenings to life and turn the village into a vibrant meeting place. The atmosphere is that of a classic Abruzzese village fair: simple, genuine, and welcoming, where the pleasure of fine food blends with social connection and the rediscovery of popular traditions.

Fallascoso and Torricella Peligna

Fallascoso is a small village perched on a rocky spur. Once an independent municipality, it is now a hamlet of Torricella Peligna, a town situated at an altitude of approximately 910 meters facing the Maiella massif, between the Sangro and Aventino valleys. The area, rich in history and nature, offers visitors much more than just the festival, including mountain landscapes, hiking trails, and a cultural heritage linked to figures such as the writer John Fante, whose family originated from these parts. The Abruzzese Dessert Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Abruzzo and its sweetest flavors.
