In the heart of Sarentino/Sarntal, in the Sarntal Valley in the province of Bolzano, one of the community's most cherished traditions returns every summer: the Abendkonzert der Musikkapelle Sarnthein, the local brass band's evening concert series. Every Thursday evening in July, the Postplatz pavilion transforms into an open-air stage where musicians in traditional Tyrolean dress accompany locals and visitors for evenings filled with brass music.

A band with over two centuries of history

The Musikkapelle Sarnthein is one of the oldest brass bands in South Tyrol, with origins dating back to 1809. Today, it counts over sixty active musicians, led by conductor Gerhard Eschgfeller, and remains a pillar of community life in Sarentino, performing at religious services, processions, serenades, and concerts throughout the year. Their repertoire is vast and varied, spanning traditional brass music, sacred pieces, and even modern pop and rock hits arranged for brass.

A summer ritual at the Postplatz pavilion

The evening concerts are held at the Postplatz pavilion in the town center, typically starting at 8:30 PM, with free admission. They offer the perfect opportunity to experience the authentic atmosphere of a South Tyrolean mountain village: open-air music, an audience gathered in the square, traditional costumes, and the conviviality typical of summer evenings in the valley.
