The Advent concert by the Mölten brass band at the Assumption Parish Church
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Konzert im Advent is the musical event with which the Musikkapelle Mölten kicks off the Christmas season in the village of Meltina/Mölten, a small hamlet nestled on the Salten/Tschögglberg plateau in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The evening takes place in the Assumption Parish Church (Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt), an ancient building that has been the heart of the village's religious and community life since the Middle Ages.
The concert brings together the band's brass ensemble with local choirs and soloists in a program that alternates between sacred music, Christmas carols, and Advent pieces. The church setting, with its acoustics and intimate atmosphere, turns this evening into a moment of reflection rather than a mere performance: the music accompanies the Mölten community in the wait for Christmas, in line with the tradition of South Tyrolean Musikkapellen, which are historically tied to liturgical events and parish life.
The Mölten brass band is part of the rich network of bands in South Tyrol, united under the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen. Documented as far back as the first half of the 19th century, the Musikkapelle is one of the village's identity-defining institutions: it accompanies processions, patronal feasts, and anniversaries, and with the Konzert im Advent, it offers one of its most intimate moments of the year.
The evening involves local associations and choirs, with female and male voices joining the instruments. Admission is free, with voluntary donations collected to support local organizations. It is an event designed for the residents of Mölten and the Salten plateau, but open to anyone wishing to experience the South Tyrolean Advent in an authentic setting, far from the large tourist markets.
Meltina/Mölten, a bilingual municipality in the province of Bolzano, sits at over 1,100 meters above sea level on the Salten plateau, famous for its larch forests and panoramic views of the Dolomites. In winter, the village offers the quiet of the South Tyrolean mountains: the Konzert im Advent fits into this landscape as one of the best opportunities to discover the more intimate, communal side of Christmas in South Tyrol.
The 2026 edition of the Konzert im Advent by the Musikkapelle Mölten has not yet been scheduled. Based on the tradition of previous years, the concert is held on an Advent Sunday at the Assumption Parish Church in Mölten (BZ), featuring the band's brass ensemble joined by local choirs and soloists. Information regarding the date, time, and program will be released by the Municipality of Mölten and the tourist board in the weeks leading up to Advent.
