Four days of music, theatre, art, and nature at the Villa Medicea di Coltano
The 110 Hertz Festival is one of the most original cultural highlights of the Pisan summer. It takes place at the Villa Medicea di Coltano, a village in the municipality of Pisa located within the Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Regional Park, in Tuscany. For four days, the historic residence and its gardens come alive with live music, theatre, dance, participatory art, live radio broadcasts, role-playing games, workshops, and "borderless" street food. Promoted by the Binario Vivo APS association, the festival has made the dialogue between diverse artistic languages its hallmark.
Coltano is no ordinary place: it was home to one of the first major radiotelegraphic centres established by Guglielmo Marconi, the pioneer of telecommunications. The festival's very name, with its reference to frequency, pays homage to this technological and intangible legacy. It is no coincidence that a key ingredient of the festival is Radio 110 Hertz, a web radio station that broadcasts live throughout the event with interviews, meetings, and special guests.
The programme is intentionally diverse and designed for all ages. Recurring features of the 110 Hertz Festival include:
The festival is organised with great attention to the environment, in keeping with the protected setting of the San Rossore Park. To reach Coltano without a car, a shuttle service runs from the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa, with departures and returns scheduled approximately every hour. A single ticket grants access to all activities, making it easy to enjoy the day. Realised with the support of the Municipality of Pisa, the Tuscany Region, the Ministry of Culture, and local partners, the 110 Hertz Festival is now a staple of the summer calendar in the Province of Pisa.
The sixth edition of the 110 Hertz Festival confirms the festival's multi-arts formula with four days packed with events at the Villa Medicea di Coltano. The 2026 programme ranges from music to theatre, dance to children's workshops, featuring art installations, role-playing games, and the unmissable live broadcast of Radio 110 Hertz. The shuttle service from the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa and the "Senza Confini" gastronomic area with international cuisine and craft beer are confirmed.
Throughout the event: roving performances, children's workshops (collective murals, tarantella lessons, Sicilian women's songs), role-playing games (LARP) and board games, installations, and live broadcasts from Radio 110 Hertz. Participating companies and artists include Instabili Vaganti, Mario Levis, and Marta Pistocchi.
The Villa Medicea di Coltano is located at Via Palazzi 21, in the village of Coltano (Pisa), inside the San Rossore Park. On-site parking is available for those arriving by car. A shuttle service operates from the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa (Piazza della Stazione 16, just a short walk from the Pisa Centrale railway station), with departures approximately every hour.
A single ticket grants access to all festival activities; the price includes the Binario Vivo APS membership card. Advance tickets are available on the Ciaotickets platform, with the option to purchase them at the festival box office as well.
Bring comfortable shoes for walking around the gardens, clothing suitable for summer evenings, and mosquito repellent, given the proximity to the park's wetlands.
