Chamber music under the stars in Tonfano, every Thursday in summer
The Giovedì Musicali di Sant'Antonio are a staple of the summer in Marina di Pietrasanta, specifically in the Tonfano district, in the province of Lucca. Every Thursday evening, from June to September, the Sant'Antonio Open-Air Theater on Via Verdi 17 transforms into an auditorium under the stars where chamber music meets an audience of locals and tourists alike. Now in its twenty-ninth season in 2026, the festival has become a cultural landmark in Versilia, blending artistic excellence with the relaxed atmosphere of summer evenings on the Tuscan coast.
The season is curated by the "Giulio Rospigliosi" Culture and Music Association, in collaboration with the Tonfano parish and with the patronage of the Municipality of Pietrasanta and the Province of Lucca. The association has made the promotion of young talent its mission: many of the musicians performing on the Sant'Antonio stage are emerging artists from the Italian and international concert scene, joined by established chamber ensembles.
The program for each season is eclectic, appealing to both enthusiasts and newcomers. It spans from the Baroque repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach to 20th-century masterpieces, from classical music to arrangements of film scores and original compositions. Over the years, the stage has hosted clarinet and piano duos, string quartets, vocal ensembles, chamber orchestras such as the Tuscan Chamber Orchestra, and piano soloists, in programs that often draw parallels between different eras and styles.
Admission to the concerts is free with a voluntary donation: part of the proceeds is dedicated to the restoration of the historic organ in the Tonfano church, linking the festival to the local community's heritage. It is this combination of accessibility, musical quality, and commitment to the territory that makes the Giovedì Musicali di Sant'Antonio one of the most cherished events of the Pietrasanta summer.
The 2026 season, the twenty-ninth edition of the festival, opens on Thursday, June 18 at 9:30 PM at the Sant'Antonio open-air theater in Tonfano (Marina di Pietrasanta). Concerts continue every Thursday evening until September 17, 2026, featuring young talents and chamber ensembles selected by the "Giulio Rospigliosi" Association.
Admission is free with a voluntary donation; in case of bad weather, concerts are held in the Via Verdi theater hall.
Rosenfield Duo — Silvia Puggioni (clarinet) and Marco Rinaudo (piano), with the program "Bagatelles, Dances and Rhapsodies": a musical journey from Johann Sebastian Bach to George Gershwin, including works by Gerald Finzi, Max Reger, Pedro Iturralde, and Nino Rota, concluding with the famous Rhapsody in Blue.
Concerts are held every Thursday at 9:30 PM from June 18 to September 17, 2026. The full schedule of subsequent concerts is announced by the "Giulio Rospigliosi" Association throughout the season: in line with past editions, instrumental duos, quartets, vocal ensembles, chamber orchestras, and soloists are expected, with repertoires ranging from Baroque to the 20th century and original arrangements.
