The great Trentino festival dedicated to the white king of the Piana Rotaliana
The Zambana White Asparagus Festival is one of the most beloved food and wine events in Trentino. It takes place in Zambana, a village in the municipality of Terre d'Adige, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), right where Trentino asparagus farming was born: nearby Zambana Vecchia is considered the cradle of this crop. In 2026, the event reached its 37th edition, confirming itself as a defining appointment for the entire town.
The white asparagus of the Piana Rotaliana is grown on about 40 hectares, with a regional production of approximately 2,000 quintals per year: half of this harvest comes from the Terre d'Adige area. During the peak days of the festival, over ten quintals of asparagus are cooked, starring in risottos, barley soups, and traditional dishes prepared by volunteers at the food stands.
The festival intertwines its culinary aspect with the Patronal Feast of Saints Philip and James, the patrons of Zambana, celebrated in early May. This dual celebration enlivens the entire village along Corso Roma, with stalls, exhibitions, and community moments. In 2025, the event received the Quality Festival certification awarded by UNPLI (National Union of Pro Loco of Italy), a recognition reserved for excellence in local volunteering.
The White Asparagus Festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Zambana and involves about 250 volunteers from 18 local associations. Beyond the table, the event is a collective celebration that tells the story of the agricultural identity and community life of Terre d'Adige, nestled between the wine-growing hills of the Piana Rotaliana and the mountains of Trentino.
The 2026 edition of the Zambana White Asparagus Festival held its peak days from Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3, as part of a calendar extended from April 11 to May 10. The inauguration took place on April 30 at 6:30 PM, with the opening of the food stands and the "Asparagus from A to Z" exhibition.
In the following days, the village of Zambana, along Corso Roma, hosted markets, creative workshops for children, tastings with local wine pairings, guided field tours, concerts, and dance performances. Among the experiences offered, the "Asparagus: from earth to table" walk with harvesting and risotto tasting (€30 adults, €10 children). The event, with free admission and organized by the Pro Loco of Zambana, involved about 250 volunteers and intertwined the fair with the Patronal Feast of Saints Philip and James.
Zambana is located in the municipality of Terre d'Adige (province of Trento), along the Adige axis between Trento and the Piana Rotaliana. By car, it can be reached from the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona or Trento Nord) and the SS12. By train, the reference stations are Trento and Mezz are Trento and Mezz are Trento and Mezzocorona-Mezzolombardo, connected to Zambana by local buses.
Admission to the event is free. Some experiences, such as the "Asparagus: from earth to table" walk with harvesting and tasting, require payment and booking (approx. €30 for adults and €10 for children). Reservations are recommended for dinners and special events.
