The XC WAP MTB is a cross-country (XC) mountain bike race held in Sanfrè, a small town of just over three thousand inhabitants in the Roero area, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Located about thirty kilometers south of Turin and nestled among rolling hills and cultivated fields, Sanfrè becomes a meeting point for local mountain bike enthusiasts for one Sunday in May.
The first stage of the Challenge MTB in Granda
The XC WAP MTB is not just a standalone race; it serves as the first stage of the Challenge MTB in Granda, the provincial cross-country mountain bike championship organized in the province of Cuneo. The circuit consists of five events spread between spring and early autumn, visiting not only Sanfrè but also the towns of Gorzegno, Trinità, and Monastero di Vasco. Winning or placing well in Sanfrè is the perfect way to start the overall Challenge standings.
A course for amateurs
The XC WAP MTB track is designed to be technical yet accessible for amateur cyclists: a cross-country course that tests legs and skills on single tracks without discouraging those who ride for the sheer love of the sport. The race is open to amateurs with a valid racing license for the current season, affiliated with any sports promotion body, and divided into the categories defined by the regulations.
Organization
The event is the result of a collaboration between various cycling associations in the Cuneo area, coordinated by the Asd Centro Coordinamento Ciclismo Cuneo together with Asd Gorzegno, Asd Ma.Gi. Cuneo, Asd Monastero di Vasco, and Sc Trinità. It is this network of local sports clubs that keeps the tradition of amateur mountain biking in the Granda region alive, year after year.

L'edizione 2026 della XC WAP MTB si è disputata domenica 10 maggio 2026 a Sanfrè (CN) ed è stata la prima delle cinque tappe del Challenge MTB in Granda. Il tracciato di cross-country, tecnico ma affrontabile dagli amatori, ha aperto la stagione del circuito provinciale.

Alla gara hanno preso parte le categorie Debuttanti, Junior, Senior, Veterani, Gentleman, Supergentleman A/B/C e Donne, secondo il regolamento tecnico degli enti di promozione sportiva.

Ai primi dieci classificati di ogni tappa vengono assegnati punti a scalare (15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 punto), più 5 punti bonus presenza, validi per la classifica generale del Challenge.

Location
The race takes place in Sanfrè (Postal Code 12040), in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Sanfrè is located in the Roero area, approximately 35 km south of Turin and 45 km north-east of Cuneo.

By car, Sanfrè can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene or Carmagnola exits) and the network of provincial roads in the Roero and Cuneo areas.
