International festival of folk dances and traditions in Vieste
The World Folklore Festival is the highlight of the summer, transforming Vieste—the pearl of the Gargano in the Province of Foggia—into a crossroads of folk traditions from every corner of the globe. Over several consecutive evenings, hundreds of artists arrive from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa, bringing with them traditional dances, folk music, period costumes, ancient instruments, vibrant colors, songs, and stories passed down through generations.
The beating heart of the event is the scenic Piazza Marina Piccola, overlooking the Adriatic Sea and framed by the white alleys of the old town. Here, every evening, international groups take turns on stage for a grand gala that combines entertainment, cross-cultural connection, and discovery.
The festival is conceived and artistically directed by the Pizzeche e Muzzeche Folk Group, a historic Vieste institution that shares Gargano traditions with the world, co-organized by the Samarkanda Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Vieste. The event's motto—"folklore unites peoples"—sums up the spirit of an event that goes beyond mere performance: parades through the historic center, institutional meetings, gastronomy and fashion showcases, workshops, and cultural exchanges make these days a bridge between Vieste and the rest of the world.
The World Folklore Festival is now one of the most iconic cultural events of the Vieste summer, capable of attracting audiences and tourists from across the Gargano and telling the story of the world's rich folk cultures through the universal language of dance.
The fourth edition of the World Folklore Festival in Vieste, titled "The World is a Village", is scheduled to begin on August 3, 2026, starting at 9:00 PM in Piazza Marina Piccola. Once again in 2026, the event is organized by the Pizzeche e Muzzeche Folk Group with the patronage of the Municipality of Vieste.
As every year, dozens of artists will reach the pearl of the Gargano, bringing traditional dances, folk music, period costumes, and ancient instruments from their respective cultures. According to the organizers, the 2026 edition will feature groups from Turkey, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Italy.
The complete program of the evenings, including group parades in the historic center and the international gala in the square, will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
