The World Calisthenics Championship was announced for the first time in Italy, to be hosted at the Pala Pellicone in Ostia, the FIJLKAM federal Olympic center overlooking the Roman coast. The scheduled dates were June 12-14, 2026. The event, promoted by the ASD Eagle Association of Sassari in collaboration with FE.NA.L.C. (Federazione Nazionale Liberi Circoli), was intended to mark the capital's debut as the stage for the most important international street workout and calisthenics tournament.
Calisthenics is a discipline that combines bodyweight strength, control, and spectacular performance, having grown from urban spaces into a structured international competition. The announced program included the three classic specialties: freestyle, featuring acrobatic and choreographic exercises on bars, strength (power), and endurance, in both men's and women's categories. Over 350 athletes from more than 60 countries and four continents were expected to participate.
The choice of Ostia, a seaside district in the Municipality of Rome in the Lazio region, tied the event to a major sports facility within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The Pala Pellicone, usually home to judo, wrestling, and karate events, was set to host stands for an estimated 15,000 live spectators, in addition to staff, technicians, and media personnel.
The event was set to feature side initiatives dedicated to training, sports inclusion, and regional promotion. As a national prelude, the Italian Calisthenics Championship was scheduled in Sardinia as a qualifying event for the international competition.
The status of the Roman event remains uncertain. The World Street Workout and Calisthenics Federation (WSWCF), the reference international body based in Riga, announced the postponement of the official 2026 world championship, moving it to Riga, Latvia, in August 2026, and clarified that the event promoted in Rome was not to be considered official or sanctioned by the Federation. In the absence of post-event reports confirming its occurrence in the capital, the Roman edition should be considered unconfirmed.
The program announced for Ostia included three days of competition in the specialties of freestyle, strength, and endurance, with men's and women's categories and over 350 athletes from more than 60 nations. The organization was entrusted to the ASD Eagle Association in collaboration with FE.NA.L.C.
Warning: the World Street Workout and Calisthenics Federation (WSWCF) has postponed the official 2026 world championship to Riga (Latvia, August 12-15, 2026) and clarified that the event promoted in Rome was not official. There are no reports confirming its occurrence at the Pala Pellicone.
