About HYROX Rome

HYROX Rome brings the international fitness racing circuit to the Fiera di Roma, located in the city's Portuense district. The challenge consists of eight kilometers of running interspersed with eight functional stations, ranging from the SkiErg and sled push to wall balls. Thousands of athletes from Italy and abroad compete in Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay categories, divided by age and gender. This sporting spectacle is also open to the public, who can watch the races for free and soak up the atmosphere in the expo village.

A global format in the heart of Rome's sporting scene

HYROX Rome is the Italian capital's stop on the international fitness racing circuit, which originated in Germany in 2017 and has since spread to dozens of cities worldwide, from London to New York, Berlin to Dubai and Singapore. The competition takes place at the Fiera di Roma, located at Via Portuense 1645/1647, in the southwestern quadrant of Rome, in the Lazio region. It is one of the most popular sporting events in the region during the autumn, drawing crowds from across Italy and various European countries.

How the race works

The HYROX format is identical in every city, a standardization that ensures international comparability. Each athlete completes eight kilometers of running, divided into eight one-kilometer segments, with a functional station following each segment. The exercises are always the same and performed in the same order:

  • SkiErg โ€” 1000 meters on the ski ergometer
  • Sled Push โ€” 50-meter weighted sled push
  • Sled Pull โ€” 50-meter weighted sled pull
  • Burpee Broad Jump โ€” 80 meters of burpees with forward jumps
  • Rowing โ€” 1000 meters on the rowing machine
  • Farmers Carry โ€” 200-meter weighted carry
  • Sandbag Lunges โ€” 100-meter weighted sandbag lunges
  • Wall Balls โ€” wall ball shots to finish the race

Categories

The formula is designed to welcome both first-timers and seasoned athletes. There are four ways to participate:

  • Open โ€” the entry-level category with accessible weights, the most popular choice
  • Pro โ€” the same exercises but with heavier weights, for experienced competitors
  • Doubles โ€” in pairs, alternating between stations
  • Relay โ€” in teams, the most social and fun format

Each category is divided by age group and gender to ensure fair competition. Races start in staggered waves throughout the day; on-site check-in opens ninety minutes before your category's first wave.

The outdoor track: a Roman specialty

Rome introduced a unique feature to the circuit that has sparked much excitement: the fully outdoor running track, utilizing the vast exterior spaces of the exhibition center. While most global stops keep the course entirely indoors, Rome allows athletes to alternate between indoor functional stations and outdoor running segments under the Roman sky, typically enjoying late-September Mediterranean sun and temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius.

More than just a race: the village and the public

The competition is a true community event. The Fiera di Roma pavilions host an expo area dedicated to fitness brands, sports equipment, and nutrition, featuring product testing, demonstrations, and food stalls. Spectator entry is free: friends, family, and curious onlookers can follow the action trackside, which is the best way to understand the format before signing up for a future edition.

Why Rome

The choice of Fiera di Roma is no coincidence. The exhibition center offers large, modular pavilions, ample parking, and a direct train link to the Fiumicino airport lineโ€”essential elements for managing the flow of thousands of athletes, their supporters, and the public. For the capital, HYROX represents a significant opportunity for sports tourism, with participants often extending their stay to explore the city.

HYROX Rome โ€” edition 2026

The second Roman edition of HYROX at Fiera di Roma, from September 24 to 27, 2026. The exhibition center on Via Portuense returns as the arena for international fitness racing, featuring the outdoor running track that made the Roman leg famous. Competitors will race in Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay categories, divided by age and gender, on a course of eight kilometers of running alternating with eight functional stations.

HYROX Rome 2026

From September 24 to 27, 2026, Fiera di Roma hosts the Roman leg of HYROX for the second consecutive year. The event spans multiple days to accommodate the overwhelming demand for registrations seen during the 2025 debut, when spots sold out in just a few days.

The format remains the international standard: eight one-kilometer running segments alternating with eight functional stations (SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jump, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls), with staggered wave starts throughout the day. The outdoor running trackโ€”a unique feature distinguishing Rome from other circuit stopsโ€”is confirmed for 2026.

The event is listed as a qualifying race for the international circuit. Spectators can watch the races for free trackside and visit the expo area set up within the pavilions.
