The world-class fitness racing event at Fiera di Roma
HYROX Rome is the Italian capital's stop on the international fitness racing circuit, which originated in Germany in 2017 and has since spread to dozens of cities worldwide, from London to New York, Berlin to Dubai and Singapore. The competition takes place at the Fiera di Roma, located at Via Portuense 1645/1647, in the southwestern quadrant of Rome, in the Lazio region. It is one of the most popular sporting events in the region during the autumn, drawing crowds from across Italy and various European countries.
The HYROX format is identical in every city, a standardization that ensures international comparability. Each athlete completes eight kilometers of running, divided into eight one-kilometer segments, with a functional station following each segment. The exercises are always the same and performed in the same order:
The formula is designed to welcome both first-timers and seasoned athletes. There are four ways to participate:
Each category is divided by age group and gender to ensure fair competition. Races start in staggered waves throughout the day; on-site check-in opens ninety minutes before your category's first wave.
Rome introduced a unique feature to the circuit that has sparked much excitement: the fully outdoor running track, utilizing the vast exterior spaces of the exhibition center. While most global stops keep the course entirely indoors, Rome allows athletes to alternate between indoor functional stations and outdoor running segments under the Roman sky, typically enjoying late-September Mediterranean sun and temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius.
The competition is a true community event. The Fiera di Roma pavilions host an expo area dedicated to fitness brands, sports equipment, and nutrition, featuring product testing, demonstrations, and food stalls. Spectator entry is free: friends, family, and curious onlookers can follow the action trackside, which is the best way to understand the format before signing up for a future edition.
The choice of Fiera di Roma is no coincidence. The exhibition center offers large, modular pavilions, ample parking, and a direct train link to the Fiumicino airport lineโessential elements for managing the flow of thousands of athletes, their supporters, and the public. For the capital, HYROX represents a significant opportunity for sports tourism, with participants often extending their stay to explore the city.
From September 24 to 27, 2026, Fiera di Roma hosts the Roman leg of HYROX for the second consecutive year. The event spans multiple days to accommodate the overwhelming demand for registrations seen during the 2025 debut, when spots sold out in just a few days.
The format remains the international standard: eight one-kilometer running segments alternating with eight functional stations (SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jump, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls), with staggered wave starts throughout the day. The outdoor running trackโa unique feature distinguishing Rome from other circuit stopsโis confirmed for 2026.
The event is listed as a qualifying race for the international circuit. Spectators can watch the races for free trackside and visit the expo area set up within the pavilions.
Fiera di Roma, Via Portuense 1645/1647, 00148 Rome. By train: the Fiera di Roma railway station is served by the FL1 line (Fiumicino Airport โ Orte) and is just a short walk from the entrances. By car: use the dedicated exit from the Rome-Fiumicino motorway, with extensive on-site parking. The venue is just minutes from Fiumicino Airport; from Ciampino Airport, it is best to reach Roma Termini and continue via the FL1 line.
Race registration is handled online via official HYROX channels. Spots fill up quickly, so it is advisable to book as soon as sales open, especially since prices increase progressively (Early Bird, Standard, Late). Spectator entry is free.
Arrive at check-in at least ninety minutes before your wave. Bring running shoes suitable for the outdoor section, a change of clothes, and a water bottle. For those traveling from out of town, hotels in the Fiera/airport area are more convenient on race day than those in the historic city center.
