The Roman coast half marathon between Isola Sacra and the canal port
The Fiumicino Half Marathon is the most anticipated running event on the Roman coast. It takes place on the last Sunday of November in the town of Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio, and features the classic 21.097 km FIDAL-certified distance, included in the national road race calendar. The start and finish lines are set in the Isola Sacra district, in front of the Santa Paola Frassinetti Parish, just minutes from Leonardo da Vinci Airport and the canal port that has made the city famous for its fresh fish.
The route is one of the fastest in central Italy: completely flat and entirely on asphalt, with no steep climbs or significant elevation changes. This is why many runners choose Fiumicino to chase their personal best on the half marathon distance. The course winds through Via Frassinetti, Viale Danubio, Via del Faro, Via della Scafa, the Ponte 2 Giugno, and Viale Traiano, with a stretch on the bike path near Via Pammacchio leading towards the seafront before returning to the city streets.
Despite the high technical level โ in recent editions, winners have finished well under one hour and twenty minutes โ the Fiumicino Half Marathon maintains a deeply popular spirit. Running clubs from across Lazio arrive in droves by bus, the streets of Isola Sacra fill with residents cheering on the runners, and the post-race atmosphere turns into a convivial gathering. The late November weather on the coast, generally mild and breezy, is considered ideal for long-distance running.
Those who know Fiumicino only for its international airport will discover a different city while running: the fishing village overlooking the Tiber, the seafood restaurants along the canal port, the pine forest, and the coastal beaches. Just a few kilometers away lie the archaeological site of Ostia Antica and the Port of Trajan, remnants of the great port system of ancient Rome. The race passes through the very places that tell this dual identity, between sea, river, and history.
The event is organized by the Isola Sacra A.S.C.D. club with the patronage of the Municipality of Fiumicino. Multiple refreshment points are provided along the course, in addition to the final refreshment area at the finish line for all participants. Chip timing service, a bag drop at the PalaFersini in Viale Danubio, and medical assistance along the route are all available. Registration is handled through dedicated online platforms and FIDAL-affiliated clubs, closing in the days leading up to the race.
On Sunday, November 29, 2026, the streets of Isola Sacra will host the twenty-third edition of the Fiumicino Half Marathon, a national FIDAL race organized by Isola Sacra A.S.C.D. with the patronage of the Municipality of Fiumicino.
The program confirms the proven formula: the 21.097 km certified half marathon, a 10 km competitive race, and a 10 km non-competitive run also open to walkers. The meeting point is in front of the Santa Paola Frassinetti Parish, on Via Giuseppe Frassinetti, with a single start at 8:45 AM.
The flat and fast route crosses Isola Sacra and the seafront, passing through Viale Danubio, Via del Faro, Via della Scafa, the Ponte 2 Giugno, and Viale Traiano, with a stretch on the bike path leading towards the sea. Refreshment stations are provided along the course, with a final refreshment area at the finish line for all participants.
Flat course entirely on asphalt, FIDAL-certified (Type A). Details on registration and regulations are available on the official event website.
