The celebration of wild boar meat in the Vallo di Lauro, featuring porchetta, hunting traditions, and live music.
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Wild Boar Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Moschiano, a town of just over 1,500 residents nestled at an altitude of about 280 meters in the Vallo di Lauro, on the western edge of the Province of Avellino, in Campania. Here, where chestnut forests climb toward the Partenio Mountains and the border with the Nola area, the presence of wild boar is part of the daily landscape: the festival was born from this close relationship between the village, the mountains, and its hunting tradition.
The event takes place on Via Galileo Galilei, in the festival area set up for the occasion, and typically occupies a weekend in June, with stalls opening in the evening. It is a community festival in the truest sense of the word: no spectacular sets, just long tables, field kitchens, volunteers at work, and a crowd arriving from the neighboring towns of the Vallo — Lauro, Taurano, Quindici, Pago del Vallo di Lauro — as well as from the Nola area.
The common thread of the festival is wild boar meat, offered in dishes that belong to the popular Irpinian and Campanian repertoire. The signature dish of the event is wild boar porchetta, slow-cooked and served hot at the stalls: it is what attracts the longest lines in front of the kitchens every year. Alongside it, other traditional preparations can be found, paired with local side dishes and regional wines.
The organizers have always insisted on one point: the meat used is selected and subject to mandatory health checks, an element that, in a festival dedicated to game, is not a detail but a choice of professionalism. It is also the way the village tells the story of a supply chain that goes from the forest to the table without anonymous steps.
The festival is promoted by the "Casa Caccia Audaci" Municipal Branch of Federcaccia, with the patronage of the Municipality of Moschiano. The local hunting association manages the entire organizational machine, from the preparation of the meat to the setup of the festival area, in a formula that combines self-financing, local promotion, and village social life. The fourth edition, in 2025, confirmed the steady growth of a festival that was born only a few years ago and has already become a permanent fixture in the Vallo di Lauro calendar.
The gastronomic experience is always accompanied by entertainment: live music fills the evenings, with local bands and groups performing popular and danceable repertoires. The stalls open in the evening — in the 2025 edition starting at 8:00 PM — and the festivities continue late into the night, in an informal setting suitable for families and children.
Those arriving for the Wild Boar Festival will find a village worth exploring: the historic center, the hamlets scattered along the hillside, and the paths that climb toward the chestnut groves. Moschiano is also famous for its Chestnut Festival, an autumn event that has surpassed forty editions: two festivals, two seasons, the same idea of a village telling its story through the fruits of its forest.
As of the update of this page, no official communication has been released regarding the dates of the 2026 Wild Boar Festival in Moschiano, in the Province of Avellino. The most recent reference remains the fourth edition, which took place in June 2025.
Based on the custom of recent years, the event should take place on a weekend in June, with evening opening of the stalls on Via Galileo Galilei and the usual formula consisting of dishes based on wild boar meat, wild boar porchetta, and live music. However, this is a forecast: nothing has been confirmed by the organizers yet.
To not miss the announcement, it is advisable to keep an eye on the channels of the Municipality of Moschiano and the "Casa Caccia Audaci" Federcaccia Section, which in past years have released the official poster about two weeks in advance, along with local Vallo di Lauro newspapers.
The festival is held on Via Galileo Galilei 1, in Moschiano (AV), in Campania, in the area set up for the occasion.
By car: take the Nola exit on the A16 Naples-Canosa motorway, then follow provincial roads towards the Vallo di Lauro (Lauro, Taurano, Moschiano); the town is about 25 km from Avellino. By train: the most convenient station is Nola (Circumvesuviana / Naples-Baiano line), from where you can continue by car or local bus. By plane: Naples-Capodichino airport, just over 40 km away.
You can park on the streets and in the squares of the town: on busier evenings, it is advisable to arrive early or leave your car just outside the center and walk to the festival area.
The stalls open in the evening (in 2025 from 8:00 PM). No official entry fees are published: as in typical village festivals, consumption is paid for at the individual food stalls.
Accommodation in Moschiano is limited: you can find farmhouses and bed and breakfasts in the towns of the Vallo di Lauro and the Nola area, while Avellino and Naples offer a wider range of options a short distance away.
Bring a light sweater: even in June, the hilly altitude makes the evenings cool. Always check dates and confirmations with the Municipality of Moschiano or the local Federcaccia branch channels before setting off.
