A forest festival in the heart of the Eggental

The Waldfest of the Musikkapelle Deutschnofen is one of the most beloved summer events in Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, a village on the Eggental plateau in the province of Bolzano, South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige). Organized by the local brass band, the Musikkapelle Deutschnofen, this forest festival attracts residents and holidaymakers every summer to the foot of the Latemar and Catinaccio mountains.

Brass band music and South Tyrolean traditions

The heart of the event is the brass music performed by the local band, which enlivens both days at the Deutschnofen Festplatz. Alongside the concerts, the festival showcases South Tyrolean folk traditions: costume parades, performances by the local folk group, and the famous Bändertanz, the ribbon dance around the maypole. You will also find horse-drawn carriages and the authentic, convivial atmosphere typical of mountain festivals.

Gastronomy and fun for everyone

As tradition dictates, "für Speis, Trank und Unterhaltung ist bestens gesorgt"—food, drinks, and entertainment are guaranteed. Among the specialties served, the spit-roasted chicken stands out, accompanied by typical South Tyrolean dishes and beer. Sunday afternoon is especially dedicated to families, with games for children and entertainment by the friendly Bobby the monkey, who keeps the little ones amused with stories and songs.

A weekend of music, nature, and community

The Waldfest is much more than a village fair: it is a time when the entire community of Nova Ponente gathers in the greenery to support the brass band's activities. The village, nestled among scattered mountain farms, larch forests, and high-altitude meadows, offers the perfect setting to combine the festival with a hike along the trails of the Eggental, with views of the Dolomite peaks of the Latemar and the Rosengarten/Catinaccio.
