The Women's Biennale of Creativity in Bra, in the heart of the Roero region
Women Art Bra, also known as W.A.B., is the Biennale of Creativity that the Municipality of Bra dedicates to women's art. The event takes place every two years at the Movicentro in Piazza Caduti di Nassiriya, located in the center of the town in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Established in 2016, the festival has grown with each edition to become a recognized fixture in the Piedmontese contemporary art scene, attracting artists from numerous Italian regions and, in some editions, from abroad.
The heart of Women Art Bra is an art competition divided into several sections, designed to highlight women's creativity while engaging male audiences and younger generations in the theme of gender equality. Selected works range from painting and sculpture to photography and applied arts, and are exhibited at the Movicentro for the duration of the event. Works are selected via a public call, and a jury awards prizes to the best entries in each section, alongside the Critics' Prize and special mentions.
Hosting Women Art Bra holds special significance for the Municipality of Bra, a city best known for its gastronomy and its ties to the Slow Food movement, but which has also been active on the cultural front for years. The Biennale is part of a broader program promoted by the Equal Opportunities Council and the BRARTE Cultural Association, which uses art as a tool to reflect on themes of equality and inclusion. For those visiting the Langhe and Roero regions, the event is an opportunity to discover a contemporary and socially engaged side of this corner of Piedmont.
Admission to the exhibition is free. During the opening period, the Movicentro welcomes visitors during set hours, with the possibility of visiting by appointment on weekdays. The awards ceremony traditionally closes the event, in the presence of the winning artists and city authorities.
