About Vulcanica

Vulcanica - Wine Food Music is a food and wine festival that brings together winemakers from the South-West slopes of Mount Etna in a vineyard in Biancavilla, near Catania. An evening of tasting stations, local discussions, regional delicacies, and live music, designed to showcase the most authentic and rugged side of Etna wine, far from the mainstream circuits. Sip your wine among the vines at Tenuta del Vallone Rosso as we celebrate the summer solstice.

Vulcanica: Etna wines with a South-West perspective

In Biancavilla, a town in the province of Catania nestled on the southern slopes of Mount Etna, comes Vulcanica - Wine Food Music, an event showcasing the winemakers of the volcano's South-West slope. This area is less traveled than the famous northern side but possesses a unique expressive depth. According to the organizers, it represents the "most rugged and authentic side" of Etna viticulture, and it is precisely this identity that Vulcanica aims to highlight.

An event between vines and territory

The setting is the Tenuta del Vallone Rosso in Contrada Boschetto, where the rows of vines become the natural stage for the evening. The concept is simple and direct: bring the public into the vineyards, facilitate face-to-face meetings between producers and enthusiasts, and pair the tastings with local products and music. This is not a trade fair, but an open-air wine festival that combines fine drinking with the pleasure of being in the countryside during the sweet hours of the Sicilian summer.

The wineries of the South-West slope

The heart of the event lies in the participating wineries, which present their labels at the tasting stations. Key players include producers such as Terra Fusa, Pietrardita, Giuseppe Lazzaro, Grottafumata, Tenuta del Vallone Rosso, Foti Randazzese, Terre di Montalto, Vigne di Confine, and Podere dell'Etna Segreta. These are the names building the oenological identity of this corner of Etna, where native grape varieties like Nerello and Carricante find original expressions.

Talks, music, and the solstice

Vulcanica is more than just tastings: the evening opens with a talk dedicated to the territory and its future potential, serving as a forum for institutions, the protection consortium, and producers. This is followed by the tasting stations, then live music and a DJ set celebrating the summer solstice, transforming the vineyard into a festive space until late at night. It is a format that weaves together wine culture, gastronomy, and entertainment, designed for curious palates and those looking to discover a less touristy side of Etna.
