Celebrating extra virgin olive oil and Etna wines in Santa Maria di Licodia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Terra Gourmet – Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Etna Wine Festival is a food and wine event that highlights the agricultural excellence of Santa Maria di Licodia, a town in the Metropolitan City of Catania nestled on the southwestern slopes of Mount Etna. The festival was born from a desire to showcase a territory shaped by olive groves and vineyards, in a corner of Sicily where olive cultivation is rooted in an ancient tradition.
The heart of the event is the extra virgin olive oil of the Etna region, accompanied by Etna wines, among the most highly regarded denominations in the Sicilian wine scene. Santa Maria di Licodia is famous for its ancient olive trees and local cultivars, most notably the Nocellara Etnea. During the festival, producers, millers, and wineries meet the public to share the story of their craft.
The evenings take place at the "Belvedere" Municipal Park on Via Privitera, which overlooks the Etna landscape. Admission is free, offering a friendly and convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from across the province of Catania and the surrounding Etna towns.
Organized by the Municipality of Santa Maria di Licodia, Terra Gourmet represents the evolution of a historic local olive oil festival and has quickly established itself as a landmark event for those wishing to discover the gastronomy of the slopes of Mount Etna. For one weekend, the town's streets and spaces become a showcase for the authentic flavors of the Sicily Region.
Terra Gourmet returns to Santa Maria di Licodia to celebrate extra virgin olive oil and Etna wines. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the event is traditionally scheduled for a weekend in September at the "Belvedere" Municipal Park. The program—including exhibition stands, guided tastings, show cooking, and evening entertainment—will be released by the organizers in the months leading up to the event.
Santa Maria di Licodia is located about 25 km from Catania, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Etna. By car: take the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, exit towards the SS121/SS284 in the direction of Paternò-Adrano. By train: the Circumetnea line connects Catania to the towns around Mount Etna. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa (approx. 35 km).
Activities are concentrated at the "Belvedere" Municipal Park, located at Via Privitera 7. Admission is free.
The event takes place in the evening: we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and arriving early on weekends. For tastings and farm tours, it is advisable to check for any booking requirements on the Municipality's official channels.
