The elegance contest for vintage cars and motorcycles with period-dressed crews
Volterra Motor Vintage is much more than a simple vintage car rally: it is a true dynamic elegance contest where the protagonists are not just the vehicles, but also the crews. The rules are fascinating: participants must dress, complete with accessories (glasses, bags, hats, jewelry), in perfect harmony with the production year of their car or motorcycle. The result is an evocative leap into the past that takes place in the historic center of Volterra, an Etruscan and medieval jewel in the province of Pisa, Tuscany.
The heart of the event is the evening parade in Piazza dei Priori, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy, which transforms into an illuminated catwalk for the occasion. Cars, motorcycles, and crews parade one by one before the jury, which evaluates not the rarity of the vehicle, but the overall harmony between the vehicle, the clothing, and the recreated atmosphere. Each edition features a different stylistic theme, bringing a specific era to life: from the elegant 1940s to the roaring decades that followed.
The event's philosophy is inclusive: you don't need to own a car over fifty years old. Vehicles around twenty years old are also welcome, provided they tell a story through a coordinated and well-curated style. It is this attention to narrative and taste, rather than the vehicle's value, that makes Volterra Motor Vintage a unique appointment in the landscape of Tuscan elegance contests.
The winning crew of the parade is awarded the prestigious Motor Vintage trophy, a sculpture in alabaster — the symbolic material of Volterra's craftsmanship — valued at approximately 2,000 euros. The connection with the territory is strong: the creation of the trophy involves local workers and alabaster artisans, guardians of a centuries-old tradition that has made Volterra famous worldwide.
Organized by the Volterra Auto Club, the event is part of the city's rich summer calendar and engages with other local vintage motor initiatives, such as the dynamic contest on the Saline-Volterra track. For enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike, it is the perfect opportunity to admire four- and two-wheeled jewels in a unique setting, amidst the ancient walls of one of Tuscany's most fascinating art cities.
The Volterra Motor Vintage 2026 confirms the formula that made the contest famous: an evening parade in Piazza dei Priori where historic vehicles and crews dressed in coherence with the vehicle's year parade before the jury. The event includes the opening of registrations in the afternoon, a convivial dinner by reservation, and the parade in the square in the evening. At the end, the Motor Vintage award is presented, an alabaster sculpture created by local artisans.
The jury evaluates the style pairing between the vehicle and the crew's clothing, consistent with the vehicle's production year. The details of participating vehicles are finalized close to the event after registration closes.
The parade takes place in Piazza dei Priori, in the historic center of Volterra (PI), Tuscany.
By car: Volterra can be reached via the SS68 (Colle Val d'Elsa exit from the Florence-Siena highway) or the SGC Florence-Pisa-Livorno (Pontedera exit). By train: the nearest station is Saline di Volterra, connected to Cecina; alternatively, use the stations of Pontedera or Cecina and continue by bus. The historic center is a restricted traffic zone: it is recommended to park in the lots outside the walls.
Participation with a vehicle is reserved for registered crews (registration fee of approximately 50 euros per crew). A dinner is available by reservation. For the public, watching the parade in the square is free.
