Volterra Motor Vintage is much more than a simple vintage car rally: it is a true dynamic elegance contest where the protagonists are not just the vehicles, but also the crews. The rules are fascinating: participants must dress, complete with accessories (glasses, bags, hats, jewelry), in perfect harmony with the production year of their car or motorcycle. The result is an evocative leap into the past that takes place in the historic center of Volterra, an Etruscan and medieval jewel in the province of Pisa, Tuscany.

The catwalk in Piazza dei Priori

The heart of the event is the evening parade in Piazza dei Priori, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy, which transforms into an illuminated catwalk for the occasion. Cars, motorcycles, and crews parade one by one before the jury, which evaluates not the rarity of the vehicle, but the overall harmony between the vehicle, the clothing, and the recreated atmosphere. Each edition features a different stylistic theme, bringing a specific era to life: from the elegant 1940s to the roaring decades that followed.

Elegance over rarity

The event's philosophy is inclusive: you don't need to own a car over fifty years old. Vehicles around twenty years old are also welcome, provided they tell a story through a coordinated and well-curated style. It is this attention to narrative and taste, rather than the vehicle's value, that makes Volterra Motor Vintage a unique appointment in the landscape of Tuscan elegance contests.

The Motor Vintage Award

The winning crew of the parade is awarded the prestigious Motor Vintage trophy, a sculpture in alabaster — the symbolic material of Volterra's craftsmanship — valued at approximately 2,000 euros. The connection with the territory is strong: the creation of the trophy involves local workers and alabaster artisans, guardians of a centuries-old tradition that has made Volterra famous worldwide.

A local event

Organized by the Volterra Auto Club, the event is part of the city's rich summer calendar and engages with other local vintage motor initiatives, such as the dynamic contest on the Saline-Volterra track.
