The Italian leg of the world beach volleyball circuit on the sand of Fantini Club
The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures of Cervia is the first Italian event of the season for the top world beach volleyball circuit. It takes place every year at the end of May on the sand of the Fantini Club, along the coast of Cervia, in the heart of the Romagna Riviera in the Province of Ravenna. For four days, the municipality of Cervia becomes a crossroads of international sport, welcoming around 200 athletes from over 30 nations, competing in the men's and women's tournaments.
The Fantini Club is no ordinary venue: it was on this very beach, in 1984, that the first official beach volleyball tournament in Italy and Europe took place. Since then, the Cervia club has remained a benchmark for this sport, regularly hosting legs of national and international circuits. The setting is typical of the Adriatic coast: the sea, the sand, and the informal, welcoming atmosphere that has always characterized this stretch of the Emilia-Romagna coast.
The Beach Pro Tour is the world circuit organized by Volleyball World, divided into several levels: Elite16, Challenge, and Futures. The Futures category represents the gateway to professional beach volleyball: it's where emerging young pairs showcase their talent and where athletes accumulate valuable points for the world rankings and the Olympic qualification race. Both Italian national team pairs and high-level foreign teams compete in Cervia.
The event runs from Thursday to Sunday, with initial qualifiers, the group stage of the main draw, and then the knockout phase leading up to the finals on Sunday. Admission is free for all competition days: spectators can watch the matches live on the courts set up on the sand, in an engaging atmosphere in direct contact with the athletes. The final stages are also broadcast live in streaming.
Cervia traditionally opens the season of the Italian legs of the Beach Pro Tour Futures, which throughout the year also visits other locations on the peninsula. The event is organized by the FIPAV - Italian Volleyball Federation in collaboration with CEV and Volleyball World, with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Cervia. For beach volleyball fans and visitors to the Riviera in spring, it's an unmissable opportunity to see the champions of tomorrow in action.
