Ammutinamenti – Festival of Urban and Author Dance is the event that has made Ravenna a leading Italian destination for contemporary and research dance since 1999. Promoted by the Associazione Cantieri Danza APS, the festival takes place every year in September and combines theatre performances, urban space events, installations, movement practices, and workshops open to all, many of which are free.

A showcase dedicated to young author dance

Ammutinamenti's distinctive feature is its constant focus on the youngest and most innovative part of the performing arts. The heart of the program is the Showcase of Young Author Dance, a moment to observe the trends and poetics of the new Italian choreographic scene: three days of performances, meetings, and discussions that bring emerging artists, professionals, and the public into dialogue. The creations on the program are selected each year from hundreds of applications by a network artistic committee, a sign of the project's national scope.

The festival takes place in some of the most characteristic locations in the Municipality of Ravenna, blending historical heritage with urban regeneration. The main venues include the Artificerie Almagià, the Teatro Rasi, the MAR – Museum of Art of the City, and the Darsena area, where dance meets unconventional spaces and street art. Urban performances bring artists' bodies out of the theatres, into the squares and along the canal, offering the city a new perspective on its own spaces.
