The marathon that runs among UNESCO mosaics
The Ravenna Art City Marathon is much more than a running race: it's a journey through the history of one of Italy's most fascinating art cities. Organized by the Ravenna Runners Club A.S.D., the event brings thousands of Italian and international athletes to run along a route that skirts eight UNESCO World Heritage monuments, including the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, and the Neonian Baptistery, in a unique itinerary among European marathons.
The program offers three competitive races: the Marathon over the classic distance of 42.195 km, the Consar Ravenna Half Marathon over 21.097 km, and the Good Morning Ravenna 10K. Added to these are non-competitive runs for families and solidarity initiatives, such as the Family Run, Dogs&Run, and Correndo Senza Frontiere. The start is set at the Pala De André, in Viale Europa, while the finish line is located in the heart of the city, near the MAR - Art Museum of the City of Ravenna.
The marathon course is famous for its speed: the 2025 edition saw historic records fall, with the Half Marathon becoming the fastest half marathon in Italy. The course winds through the historic center of Ravenna and extends to the coast, reaching Punta Marina Terme, in an alternation of art, sea, and the Romagna plain. The finisher medal, made in mosaic style, celebrates a symbol of the city each year: for 2026, it is inspired by the Mausoleum of Theodoric.
Located in the Emilia-Romagna region, within the Municipality and Province of Ravenna, the event is preceded by the Expo Marathon Village, set up at the Pala De André in the days leading up to the race, where athletes collect their bibs and thousands of visitors meet exhibitors and sponsors. The Ravenna Marathon is part of the regional HypER-5 circuit, which brings together five races in Emilia-Romagna in a runner's digital passport.
The Ravenna Art City Marathon 2026 returns with a long weekend dedicated to running. The Pala De André (Viale Europa 1) hosts the Expo Marathon Village and bib collection on Friday, November 6th (10:30 AM - 7:00 PM) and Saturday, November 7th (9:30 AM - 7:00 PM). On Sunday, November 8th, the three competitive races kick off along a fast course that passes by UNESCO World Heritage monuments and finishes at the MAR. The 2026 finisher medal, in mosaic style, is inspired by the Mausoleum of Theodoric.
The finish line for all competitive races is near the MAR — Art Museum of the City (Via di Roma 13). Maximum time for the marathon: 6 hours and 30 minutes. The course goes to Punta Marina Terme, passing by basilicas and UNESCO mosaics. Info and registration at maratonadiravenna.com.
