The birth of Predappio Nuova told at the Birthplace of Mussolini, between urban planning, period documents and 20th-century memory
In the heart of the Romagna Apennines, in the Municipality of Predappio (province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna), the exhibition “Predappio 100 – The Years of Foundation: 1925-1929” celebrates the centenary of the foundation of the so-called Predappio Nuova. The exhibition is set up in the rooms of the Birthplace of Benito Mussolini, on via Varano Costa Nuova, and is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Predappio.
The exhibition path focuses on the planning carried out in Predappio Nuova by architect Florestano Di Fausto and on the first constructions that affected the territory from its foundation in 1925 until 1929. After the relocation of the settlement from the ancient nucleus of Predappio Alta to the hamlet of Dovia, a new centre took shape, designed according to the urban planning standards of the time: squares, public buildings, road axes, and monumental architectures that still characterize the town today.
The exhibition brings together project drawings, posters, paintings, and archival materials, accompanied by video documentation created by Renato Billi and Riccardo Salvetti and a historical documentary from the Istituto LUCE. Two dates mark the narrative: Mussolini's visit on April 15, 1923, and the official foundation on August 30, 1925. The project is curated by Prof. Ulisse Tramonti, with the collaboration of researchers, historians, and collectors, and with the coordination of ATRIUM.
The initiative is proposed as an opportunity for historical and urbanistic study of a complex chapter of the Italian 20th century. Set up in one of the most discussed places of national memory, the exhibition invites visitors to critically examine the transformations that shaped the current Predappio, a destination for scholars, tourists, and curious visitors from all over Italy and abroad every year.
The 2026 edition of the exhibition “Predappio 100” reopens on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Birthplace of Benito Mussolini, on via Varano Costa Nuova in Predappio (FC), and continues until January 6, 2027. The Municipal Administration has decided to relaunch the exhibition after the excellent figures from the first phase, keeping the path dedicated to the birth of Predappio Nuova and Florestano Di Fausto's urban planning project unchanged.
The documentation includes drawings, posters, paintings, and audiovisual materials, including videos by Renato Billi and Riccardo Salvetti. The curatorship remains entrusted to Prof. Ulisse Tramonti with the coordination of ATRIUM.
The exhibition is organized in the rooms of the Birthplace of Benito Mussolini with a path dedicated to the founding years of Predappio Nuova (1925-1929).
