The travelling puppet theatre festival between Ravenna and the Po Delta
Burattini alla Riscossa is the most established and distinctive puppet theatre festival in the area, animating dozens of locations between the provinces of Ravenna and Ferrara every summer. Founded to bring the ancient art of puppetry back to the centre, the festival is now an eagerly awaited event for thousands of spectators: over one hundred performances and more than twenty thousand attendees per year, spread across more than thirty-five venues including parks, squares, beaches, and courtyards.
At the heart of the festival are the famous characters of the Emilia-Romagna tradition: Fagiolino and Sganapino, popular masks that have made generations laugh with their irreverence and their peasant common sense. Alongside classic shows, the artistic direction of Massimiliano Venturi offers new productions that blend tradition with contemporary themes, such as the show "Sganapino contro il granchio blu" (Sganapino vs. the blue crab), inspired by current environmental issues in the Adriatic.
The "travelling" nature is the distinctive feature of the event: the shows reach the Municipality of Ravenna and numerous locations on the coast and inland, from Casalborsetti to Lido Adriano, from Classe to Sant'Alberto, as well as Brisighella, Lugo, Russi, and the Comacchio beaches and the Copparo area in the province of Ferrara. It's a way to bring theatre closer to communities, reaching even small towns often far from major cultural circuits.
The shows are designed for families and suitable for audiences aged three and up, with free admission. Promoted by the I Teatri del Delta network and produced by Bialystok Produzioni, the festival is a cultural initiative that enhances the popular heritage of Emilia-Romagna, transmitting the magic of an art made of wood, fabric, and imagination to new generations.
With the 2026 edition, the festival reaches an important milestone, celebrating two decades of uninterrupted activity. A longevity that testifies to the deep bond between Burattini alla Riscossa and the Romagna public, and the ability to renew itself while remaining true to its roots.
The 2026 edition marks the twentieth anniversary of the travelling festival Burattini alla Riscossa, with a program of dozens of free shows that will animate parks, squares, and beaches between the provinces of Ravenna and Ferrara.
