Three days of Apulian street food, music, and traditions in the heart of Moncalieri
The "Viva la Puglia" Festival transforms Piazza Mercato (Ex Foro Boario) in Moncalieri, just outside Turin, into a corner of Southern Italy for an entire weekend. Organized by Cucina di Puglia, the event offers three days entirely dedicated to the gastronomy, music, and folk traditions of the region that forms the "heel" of Italy's boot, with completely free admission.
The heart of the festival is the food: stalls serving Apulian street food, regional products, and craft beer welcome visitors from morning until late at night. Signature specialties include the famous orecchiette, focaccia, panzerotti, and the authentic flavors of one of Italy's most beloved cuisines. It is a unique opportunity to taste products in Moncalieri and the Metropolitan City of Turin that reflect the rural and maritime identity of Puglia.
Every evening, the festival comes alive with concerts and traditional dances: from the pizzica of Salento to serenades and folk songs, the program celebrates Southern folklore with live musical groups. The pizzica, an ancient and captivating dance linked to the taranta ritual, is one of the most anticipated moments, drawing the audience into nights of authentic celebration.
Alongside music and gastronomy, the event offers food and wine workshops focused on typical Apulian dishes, such as the preparation of homemade orecchiette: a hands-on experience to discover traditional techniques up close. The Puglia Festival is an event suitable for families, curious visitors, and culture enthusiasts, set in a convivial atmosphere that heralds the spring.
In recent years, the Puglia Festival has carved out a permanent spot in the event calendar of Moncalieri, a city in the Province of Turin, Piedmont, becoming a meeting point for the large Apulian community in Northern Italy and for all those who love the flavors and rhythms of the South. Three days that, as they say, taste like spring and pure folklore.
