The Potenza Film Festival dedicated to new talents
Visioni Verticali is the Potenza Film Festival, an event that every December brings the best of independent Italian and international cinema to the Lucanian capital. Created to provide a space for emerging directors and new talents, the festival features short films, feature films, documentaries, and animated shorts, accompanied by masterclasses, meetings, and guests from the audiovisual world.
The strength of the festival lies in the themes that run through the selected works: digital innovation, sustainability, the search for identity, female empowerment, youth fragility, and cultural diversity. A proposal that makes Visioni Verticali not only a cinematic showcase but also a place for reflection and dialogue with the public, particularly with high school students in Potenza, who are invited to form the popular jury.
The festival takes place between the Cineteatro Don Bosco and the Teatro Stabile in Potenza. Among the most significant collaborations is that with the Giffoni Film Festival, a national benchmark for children's cinema. Promoted by the Associazione Culturale Polimeri (Polimeri Cultural Association), the event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by the Basilicata Region, Lucana Film Commission, the Province of Potenza, and the University of Basilicata.
Alongside the in-theater program, Visioni Verticali offers acting masterclasses with casting professionals, live podcasts with guests, and informal discussion moments. For cinema enthusiasts and those seeking a quality cultural event in the heart of the Lucanian winter, it is an unmissable appointment.
The eighth edition of Visioni Verticali is expected in December 2026 in Potenza. After the success of the seventh edition, the festival will confirm its formula of competition, masterclasses, and guests from the independent film world. The dates and detailed program will be communicated in the coming weeks.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks. Based on previous editions, the festival will span three days between the Cineteatro Don Bosco and the Teatro Stabile in Potenza, with screenings of international shorts in competition, feature films, documentaries, and animated shorts, masterclasses, meetings with guests, and the popular jury composed of high school students from the city.
How to get there: the festival venues are located in the center of Potenza, reachable by train (Potenza Centrale and Superiore stations) and by car from the highway junction.
