Three months of events spread across Sala Consilina, in the heart of the Vallo di Diano
The Estate Salese is the major summer festival program of the Municipality of Sala Consilina, in the province of Salerno, Campania. It is not a single event but a series that, for three consecutive months, accompanies citizens and visitors with shows, music, culture, entertainment, traditional food, and environmental initiatives. The rhythm is that of a town reclaiming its squares as the afternoon heat fades: it begins in July and runs until the end of September.
The choice declared by the municipal administration is precise: to distribute initiatives across the entire municipal territory instead of concentrating them in one square. Thus, the historic center, the Villa Comunale, the small squares of the districts, and the hamlets become the stage for the festival in turn. As explained by the Councilor for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment Jose Biscotti, the goal is to "speak to everyone," because "culture must be inclusive and accessible," strengthening the citizens' sense of belonging and promoting Sala Consilina as a lively, welcoming, and culturally dynamic city.
The Estate Salese program is intentionally diverse and aims to cover all age groups. Throughout the festival, there is room for:
Within the municipal program, long-standing events for the Vallo di Diano coexist with novelties designed for younger audiences. The Toko Film Fest, born in 2014 and now one of the showcases for independent cinema in Southern Italy, brings short films, meetings, talks, and exhibitions to Sala Consilina. The «Arts, Crafts and Customs» festival, with the historical re-enactment «Charles V in the Land of Sala», brings the old town back to the atmosphere of the 16th century. The Casalini in Valle Food Festival lights up the ancient village of Casalini with traditional cuisine. Alongside these, initiatives such as Fitness in the Villa, the Marcialonga, the «Walking from San Pietro to San Raffaele» tour, the Foam Party for teenagers, Free Radio, and Clean Up the World complete a mosaic that brings together sports, environment, and social life.
The Estate Salese is not planned behind closed doors: the programming is defined by involving local associations, which remain the protagonists of organizing individual events. For some initiatives, there was also the contribution of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, the large park that surrounds the Sala territory and links the festival to the theme of environmental protection. Mayor Domenico Cartolano emphasized how, despite reducing expenses compared to the previous year, the number of shows was kept unchanged and contributions were guaranteed to all local associations.
Sala Consilina is one of the main centers of the Vallo di Diano, a few kilometers from the Certosa di Padula and at the gates of the inland Cilento. Participating in the Estate Salese means discovering a town that is lived on the streets in summer, among uphill alleys, panoramic squares, and tables full of local products. It is an ideal opportunity for those passing through the area along the Mediterranean motorway looking for an authentic experience, far from the most crowded itineraries of the Campanian coast.
The 2026 Estate Salese program covers the entire summer, from July 10th to September 29th, with thirty-five events promoted by the Municipality of Sala Consilina. Despite the reduction in economic resources compared to the previous year, the administration kept the number of shows unchanged and guaranteed contributions to all local associations.
The festival moves across multiple registers: cultural meetings, theater, dance, music, cinema, book presentations, festivals, initiatives for children, sports activities, environmental events, popular traditions, and religious celebrations. Among the most anticipated moments are the Toko Film Fest, the historical re-enactment «Charles V in the Land of Sala» with the participation of actor Gilles Rocca, the Casalini in Valle Food Festival, and the second edition of Free Radio in the renovated Piazzetta San Raffaele.
For some initiatives, the programming benefits from the contribution of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, confirming the link between the festival and the protection of the territory.
The complete calendar of the 35 events is published by the Municipality of Sala Consilina; dates, times, and locations may be subject to changes due to causes beyond the organizers' control.
Sala Consilina is easily reached by car from the A2 "Mediterranean" motorway (exit Sala Consilina or Atena Lucana), about an hour and a half from Salerno and two hours from Naples. The reference railway station for long-distance connections is Sapri or Salerno, with continuation by bus; the Vallo di Diano is served by regional bus lines. The nearest airport is Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi, followed by Naples Capodichino.
The appointments are distributed throughout the city: historic center, Villa Comunale, Piazza Umberto I, Piazzetta San Raffaele, Palazzo Fiordelisi, the village of Casalini, and other spaces in the districts. It is advisable to check the exact location from time to time on the channels of the Municipality of Sala Consilina.
Sala Consilina and the neighboring municipalities (Padula, Atena Lucana, Teggiano, Polla) offer farmhouses, B&Bs, and small hotels, an excellent base also for visiting the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula and the Pertosa-Auletta Caves.
