The multidisciplinary summer festival in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, in the province of Caltanissetta
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Villa Hermosa Festival is the main cultural event in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, a town in the hinterland of the province of Caltanissetta, in central Sicily. It is a multidisciplinary live performance festival that, over several weeks between July and August, brings the town's squares and historic villas to life with theatre, music, concerts, comedy, cabaret, and cultural moments. The artistic direction is entrusted to Giancarlo Nicoletti, who curates a program every year featuring musical cross-pollination, tributes to Sicilian identity, singer-songwriter performances, prose, and popular entertainment.
The festival was born in 2021 as the town's first major cultural event, designed to revitalize the area following the period of restrictions and to offer residents and visitors opportunities for leisure and gathering. Since then, it has become the heart of the #estatecaterinese, the summer calendar promoted by the municipal administration together with the Pro Loco and local associations. Edition after edition, the event has grown, alternating theatrical performances, monologues, comedy nights, and major concerts in the square: guests of the early editions include well-known names of the Italian scene such as Ninni Bruschetta, Roberto Ciufoli, Giorgio Colangeli, Marco Morandi, and, in one of the most attended evenings, Roy Paci & Aretuska.
Performances take place in some of the most evocative spots in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, transformed into open-air stages: Piazza Garibaldi, the town's drawing room which hosts the major concerts, and the historic villas Villa Castelnuovo and Villa Margherita, intimate and charming settings for theatre and more private appointments. The widespread festival format allows visitors to experience the town center as one large open-air theatre, enhancing the heritage and identity of the local community.
One of the distinctive features of the Villa Hermosa Festival is free admission to all shows, with online seat reservation via the event's official website. This choice makes culture accessible to everyone and turns the festival into a gathering point for the entire community, as well as a draw for visitors from the surrounding areas of the province of Caltanissetta. Between concerts under the stars, laughter, theatre, and singer-songwriter music, the festival tells the story of the vitality of a small Sicilian town that has successfully built its own summer cultural identity.
The Villa Hermosa Festival is also expected for the summer of 2026 in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, in the heart of the province of Caltanissetta.
