The patronal festival of Serradifalco in honor of Saint Leonard of Noblac
The Saint Leonard Festival is the main civil and religious event in Serradifalco, a town in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of central Sicily. Dedicated to Saint Leonard of Noblac, the town's patron saint and namesake of the Mother Church, the festival traditionally takes place during the second week of August. This timing is no coincidence: it is the period when many Serradifalco emigrants return home for their summer holidays, turning the celebration into a grand collective homecoming to their roots.
The religious heart of the festival is marked by rites in the Mother Church: solemn vespers, the Eucharistic celebration, and above all, the procession of the statue of Saint Leonard, which winds through the streets of the center accompanied by religious, civil, and military authorities, and the emotional participation of the local population. The event also features a floral tribute in the square and traditional fireworks that light up the village sky.
Among the most characteristic events is the historical re-enactment of the "Solemn Homage of the Bishop in the Duchy of Serradifalco", organized by the local association: a pageant in 17th-century costumes with torches, songs, and period music that transports the town back to the atmosphere of the 1600s, when Serradifalco was founded as a fiefdom. The town, once known as the "village of mines" for its history linked to sulfur and potash extraction, thus rediscovers the memory of its own identity.
The highlight of the festivities is the famous Saint Leonard Monday concert, held in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele with free admission. Over the years, the Serradifalco stage has hosted top names in Italian music, capable of attracting thousands of people from across the province of Caltanissetta and beyond. The event, supported by the Municipality through Participatory Democracy funds, is designed to encourage visitor influx and promote local tourism.
Blending the sacred and the profane, faith and spectacle, the Saint Leonard Festival offers visitors an authentic glimpse of inland Sicily, defined by popular traditions, hospitality, and a sense of community. A perfect opportunity to discover Serradifalco and the flavors of the Nisseno hinterland.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Leonard Festival confirms the traditional structure of the patronal festivities of Serradifalco, spread over several days in the second week of August: the historical re-enactment of the "Solemn Homage of the Bishop in the Duchy of Serradifalco" in 17th-century costumes, the solemn vespers and Eucharistic celebration in the Mother Church, the procession of the statue of Saint Leonard through the streets of the center, and the fireworks display.
The Municipality of Serradifalco has approved the allocation of the entire 2026 Participatory Democracy budget, amounting to 7,000 euros, to support the famous Saint Leonard Monday concert in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, with free admission. The full program details and the guest artist will be released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Serradifalco is located in the province of Caltanissetta, in central Sicily. By car, it can be reached via the SS640 (Caltanissetta-Agrigento) and local provincial roads; the provincial capital, Caltanissetta, is about 20 km away. The most convenient train station is in Caltanissetta, which is connected to the regional network. The reference airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, approximately 130 km away.
The festivities are concentrated in the second week of August, with the procession on Sunday and the concert on Monday. The liturgical commemoration of Saint Leonard falls on November 6th.
Religious services, the procession, and the evening concert in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele are free of charge.
