The walk through the 'viasole' of Peveragno on Liberation Day
The Viasolada is one of the most beloved walks in the Cuneo area. Every year on April 25th, Liberation Day, it leads dozens of participants along the viasole—local paths that wind through the woods and hamlets of Peveragno, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. It is neither a race nor an endurance march; it is a collective, slow, and contemplative walk designed for those who love to discover the landscape in good company, without any rush.
The event is organized by the Compagnia del Birùn APS in collaboration with the Peveragno section of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), with the patronage of the Municipality of Peveragno and the FAI Delegation of Cuneo. The 2026 edition marked a significant milestone: its twentieth anniversary. Twenty years of steps, encounters, and memories, during which the Viasolada has grown into a key reference point for local hiking enthusiasts.
The event's name comes from the viasole themselves: small paths that once connected hamlets and fields, now brought back to life through walks like this. Traversing them means rediscovering the intimate history of the town, its districts, and its vistas, in a constant dialogue between nature and rural heritage.
The Viasolada formula combines hiking with celebration. After the morning walk and a packed lunch along the way, the afternoon comes alive with Occitan dances—a vibrant expression of the culture of the Cuneo valleys—concluding with a convivial dinner that brings participants together around the table. It is this blend of gentle sport, tradition, and friendship that makes this event a classic of the Peveragno spring.
The 2026 edition marked a special milestone: the twentieth edition of the Viasolada. The day began with a meeting at 9:15 AM in the church square of Montefallonio di Peveragno, with the hike departing at 10:00 AM. Along the route, on the 'viasole' paths, participants enjoyed a packed lunch before gathering in the afternoon for Occitan dances and the convivial dinner.
Non-competitive hike organized by the Compagnia del Birùn APS with the Peveragno section of the CAI, with the patronage of the Municipality of Peveragno and the FAI Delegation of Cuneo.
Twentieth edition: twenty years of shared journeys. Occitan dances at the finish and a convivial dinner to celebrate the milestone.
Peveragno is located in the province of Cuneo, at the foot of the Maritime Alps. By car, it can be reached from Cuneo in about 15 minutes; the nearest train station is in Cuneo, which is connected to the main cities in Piedmont.
The registration fee for the hike is €2 (free for members). For the convivial dinner at Osteria dalla Badessa: €22 for adults, €15 for children up to 10 years old. Booking for the dinner is recommended via WhatsApp at +39 334 8966480.
Appropriate clothing and footwear for trail walking are required. We recommend bringing a packed lunch.
