The Ventricina Party in Palmoli
The Ventricina Party is the signature food and wine event of the Municipality of Palmoli, a small village in the Alto Vastese area of the Chieti province, in Abruzzo. Organized by the Pro Loco of Palmoli, the event takes place in the historic setting of the Castello Marchesale courtyard, the medieval manor with its characteristic polygonal tower that dominates the village. Established in 2006, the Ventricina Party reached its twentieth edition in 2025, confirming itself as one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the Vasto summer.
Ventricina, the queen of the table
The heart of the festival is the ventricina of Palmoli, a typical sausage from the Vasto area which is known in Palmoli by the dialect name "viscich". It is a sausage made from the finest cuts of pork, hand-cut with a knife and seasoned with salt, sweet red pepper, and wild fennel seeds, following the ancient recipe of peasant tradition. During the festival, the Pro Loco offers tastings of ventricina and, above all, the famous grilled ventricina chunks, large pieces of meat cooked over charcoal on the spot, releasing all their aroma into the village air.
The festival menu
In the castle courtyard, starting in the evening, the Pro Loco stands offer a traditional menu:
- Ventricina chunks grilled over charcoal
- Sliced ventricina of Palmoli
- Side of Abruzzese tortarello
- Bread, local wine, and dessert
The evening is enlivened by live music, which accompanies the tasting and turns the festival into a village celebration open to residents and visitors alike.
A village to discover
The Ventricina Party is also an opportunity to visit Palmoli and its Castello Marchesale, one of the best-preserved manors in the Chieti hinterland. The event, which highlights a product that defines the local identity, attracts numerous food and wine enthusiasts every summer from all over the Alto Vastese and neighboring provinces of Abruzzo, helping to keep an ancient culinary tradition alive and promote the small municipality.
Ventricina Party — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Ventricina Party in Palmoli is expected for the summer, as per tradition in the Castello Marchesale courtyard. At the moment, the Pro Loco of Palmoli has not yet published official dates or a program. The usual menu based on grilled ventricina chunks, sliced ventricina of Palmoli, and Abruzzese tortarello is expected, accompanied by live music. Details will be updated as soon as they are released by the organizers.

How to get there
By car: from Vasto, you can reach Palmoli by taking the SS650 Trignina and the provincial roads of the Alto Vastese (about 40 minutes). The nearest train station is Vasto-San Salvo, on the Adriatic line; from there, continue by car towards the interior.

Participation in the festival is free; tastings can be purchased at the Pro Loco stands.
