The Cupello stop on a gastronomic journey through the villages of the Vastese region
Ventricina e Bollicine is a traveling gastronomic festival that winds through the villages of the Vastese region, in the heart of Abruzzo, to celebrate the flavors and traditions of this part of the Chieti province. The Cupello stop takes place on Corso Mazzini, in the town center, and serves as one of the opening events of the festival's summer calendar.
At the heart of the event is the Ventricina del Vastese, one of the most iconic cured meats of inland Abruzzo: a sausage with a characteristic red color, flavored with chili pepper and fennel seeds, produced for centuries in the hilly villages between the Trigno River and the Adriatic coast. Alongside the ventricina, the festival showcases bollicine (sparkling wines), creating a pairing that highlights the quality of Abruzzo's viticulture.
The festival is promoted by the Abruzzo Region and stems from a collaboration between the municipal administrations of the Vastese, the Ventricina producers' association, and local food and wine businesses. The goal is to build a unified promotion of the inland villages, connecting territories, flavors, and stories while linking the hills to the Costa dei Trabocchi. The Cupello stop is part of this shared journey, which touches several municipalities in the district throughout the summer.
The event format combines tastings of local products, live music, markets, and opportunities to discover the village. Corso Mazzini comes alive with food stands, producers, and artisans, offering visitors an authentic experience amidst the flavors of the Vastese and the warm hospitality of the Cupello community.
The municipality of Cupello, in the province of Chieti, is an agricultural village in southern Abruzzo known for its food and wine traditions, ranging from wines and vegetables to cured meats. The Ventricina e Bollicine festival adds to the rich summer calendar of Cupello, helping to enhance the local identity and promote gastronomic tourism in the region's inland areas.
