A vineyard in the heart of the city
For the first time, in May 2026, Piazza Varchi in Montevarchi (Province of Arezzo, Tuscany) will be transformed into an open-air vineyard. Varchi in Vigna is the new food and wine event promoted by the Municipality of Montevarchi: the central square will be set up with real rows of vines and 800 square meters of natural lawn, recreating the atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside in the historic center. Visitors can choose how to enjoy their evening, whether sitting on the lawn among the vines or at the tasting tables, with no reservations required.
Wineries and local flavors
The heart of the event consists of 25 wineries arranged along the sides of the square, offering wines from the Valdarno and Tuscany regions. Along Via Roma, on the side of Palazzo Martini, 10 food vendors will feature local products: cured meats, cheeses, bruschetta, and other specialties to pair with your glass. Access to tastings is granted by purchasing a commemorative glass with its holder, for a 5-euro deposit that is refunded at the end of the evening.
Masterclasses, sommeliers, and music
In addition to open tastings, the program offers masterclasses and guided tastings led by sommeliers from AIS Toscana – Arezzo delegation, to guide the public through a journey of local wines and flavors. The evenings are accompanied by live music and entertainment, creating a convivial and relaxed atmosphere. During the event, Via Roma will be closed to vehicular traffic to make room for the festivities.
A bet on the historic center
Promoted by the Municipality of Montevarchi in collaboration with the Pro Loco Montevarchi, the event was created to enhance the historic center and the wine culture of the Arezzo Valdarno, offering – in the words of the administration – "an experience unlike any other: living the atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside in the heart of the historic center." For the town of Montevarchi, a hub of the Valdarno between Arezzo and Florence, Varchi in Vigna represents a new spring appointment dedicated to food, wine, and conviviality.

The debut of Varchi in Vigna
The first edition of Varchi in Vigna was held in Montevarchi from Friday, May 22nd to Sunday, May 24th, 2026, every evening from 6:00 PM to midnight. Piazza Varchi was transformed into an open-air vineyard with real rows of vines and 800 square meters of natural lawn.
Along the sides of the square, 25 wineries were set up with wines from the Valdarno and Tuscany, while on Via Roma, on the side of Palazzo Martini, 10 food vendors offered cured meats, cheeses, and local products. The public could taste by purchasing a commemorative glass (5-euro deposit).

The three evenings (May 22-24, 2026)
Every evening, from 6:00 PM to midnight, in Piazza Varchi:
- Open tastings at the stands of the 25 local wineries arranged along the sides of the square.

How to get there
By train: the Montevarchi-Terranuova station is on the Florence-Arezzo-Rome line, a short distance from the center. By car: take the Valdarno exit on the A1 motorway, then follow signs for the center of Montevarchi.
Admission and costs
Free admission to the event. For tastings, you can purchase a glass with a holder for a 5-euro deposit, which is refunded at the end of the evening. No reservation is required.
