Every third weekend of September, Panzano celebrates Chianti Classico in Piazza Bucciarelli
Vino al Vino is the annual event that transforms Piazza Bucciarelli in Panzano in Chianti into the open-air living room of Chianti Classico every third weekend of September. Established in 1995, it offers a direct connection between Panzano's winegrowers and enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad who flock to this village to taste both classic and new vintages. Panzano is a hamlet of the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the Province of Florence, the heart of Tuscany's wine country and one of Italy's first organic wine districts.
At the heart of the event is the Union of Panzano Winegrowers, an association representing about twenty-three local estates, most of which are organic. For three days, their stalls line the square: some offer Chianti Classico in its Annata, Riserva, and Gran Selezione versions, while others pour Supertuscan and local IGT wines. Visitors, glass in hand, move freely from one producer to another, engaging directly with winemakers and oenologists who share stories of their vineyards, harvests, and production philosophies.
Access is granted via a tasting kit, which includes a tasting glass, a glass-holder lanyard, a map of participating wineries, and the event brochure. The ticket, valid for all three days, allows unlimited tasting of the dozens of labels present in the square. In recent years, the festival has featured over eighty different wines, offering a comprehensive overview of Panzano's production in a single setting.
What sets Vino al Vino apart from large-scale trade fairs is its authentic, intimate spirit. More than a commercial event, it is a community celebration: the producers are present in person, the hospitality is informal, and the medieval village provides a natural backdrop. Gastronomic delights are a staple, with local specialties and the famous butcher Dario Cecchini bringing his flavors to the square. Between tastings, visitors can wander through the streets of Panzano, enjoying the vineyard-covered hills that make the Chianti region one of the most beloved landscapes in Tuscany.
The 2026 edition of Vino al Vino is scheduled from September 18 to 20, 2026 in Piazza Bucciarelli, Panzano in Chianti. As per tradition, the wineries of the Union of Panzano Winegrowers will gather in the square to offer tastings of vintage and new Chianti Classico releases and local IGT wines. Access will be via the tasting kit, which includes a glass, lanyard, map, and brochure. The detailed program, including opening hours and any side events, will be announced by the organization closer to the date.
Panzano in Chianti is located along the SR222 Chiantigiana road, between Greve in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti. It is about a 40-minute drive from Florence and 35 minutes from Siena. Parking is available near the town center. The event takes place in Piazza Bucciarelli, in the heart of the village.
Admission is ticketed: the pass (around 30 euros) includes the tasting kit with a glass, lanyard, map, and brochure, and is valid for all days of the event. Tickets can be purchased at participating wineries or at the stand in the square.
We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the village streets, and, of course, tasting in moderation. For those traveling from afar, numerous agriturismi and wineries offer accommodation among the Chianti hills.
