International bands, majorettes, and parades among the trulli of Cisternino
The Valle d'Itria International Band Festival is one of the most beloved musical events in Cisternino, a white-stone village in the province of Brindisi nestled among the trulli and ancient olive groves of the Valle d'Itria, in Puglia. Every year in July, the historic center fills with music, colors, and rhythmic steps: brass bands, marching bands, and majorette troupes become the absolute stars of four days of festivities open to everyone.
The festival has a distinctly international character: past editions have featured ensembles from Portugal, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, the Czech Republic, and various Italian regions, performing alongside local groups. The event is organized by the Associazione Musicale «Città di Cisternino» APS with the support of the Cisternino municipal administration, and it celebrates the heritage of the 'bande da giro' (touring bands), a deep identity trait of Apulian and Southern Italian popular culture.
The program alternates between various moments that involve the entire community:
Attending the festival is also an opportunity to discover Cisternino, listed among the «Most Beautiful Villages in Italy», with its maze of whitewashed alleys, courtyards, and the aromas of local cuisine. The Valle d'Itria, with Alberobello, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, and Ostuni just a short distance away, offers a unique setting where band music blends with the landscape of trulli and the typical warm hospitality of Puglia.
The 2026 edition of the Valle d'Itria International Band Festival, the twenty-eighth, brings Cisternino to life from July 16 to 19, 2026, with a common thread dedicated to the magic of fairy tales. Alongside international band ensembles, the event features theatrical performances and nationally renowned guests, with special attention to families thanks to the presence of Disney characters along the parade route.
Featured bands include the «Vitino Zizzi» Wind Orchestra of Cisternino, the Ittirese Band from Sardinia, ensembles from Vizela (Portugal) and the Netherlands, drill and majorette groups from Sweden, and other Italian musical corps. The artistic direction is provided by the Associazione Musicale «Città di Cisternino» APS, with the support of the municipal administration.

Cisternino can be reached by car via the SS16 and SS172 dei Trulli roads. The Cisternino train station (on the Bari-Martina Franca-Taranto line operated by Ferrovie del Sud Est) is a few kilometers from the center and is connected by bus. The nearest airports are Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese.
The main shows and concerts are held in Piazza Garibaldi and along the streets of the historic center, with itinerant parades winding through the village alleys.
The events in the square are outdoors and take place in the evening: it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot. During the festival days, the center is particularly crowded, so it is best to park in the areas outside the village.
