About Alpine Marathon

The Val della Torre Alpine Marathon is a historic trail running race that brings hundreds of athletes to the ridges and forests of the Val Casternone, in the province of Turin, every spring. Three routes—the 42 km marathon, the 22 km half-marathon, and the 11 km non-competitive trail—climb up to Monte Arpone and Colle della Lunella, offering spectacular views over the Turin plains. A tough and fascinating challenge organized by A.P.D. Sportinsieme.

The Val della Torre Alpine Marathon

The Val della Torre Alpine Marathon is one of the most beloved events in the Piedmontese trail running calendar. It takes place in the municipality of Val della Torre, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, right at the gates of the regional capital: a small village nestled in the Val Casternone, from which trails climb rapidly toward the ridges dividing the Susa Valley, the Viù Valley, and the Turin plains.

Three routes for every level

The event offers three tracks designed for different levels of preparation:

  • Marathon — 42 km, 2,600 m D+: the flagship route, reaching Monte Arpone (1,601 m) and the mountain ridge with technical sections on scree and exposed single tracks.
  • Half-marathon — 22 km, 1,550 m D+: climbs up to Colle della Lunella (1,374 m), crossing forests and clearings with panoramic views of Turin.
  • Non-competitive trail — 11 km, 350 m D+: the most accessible format, open to those who want to enjoy the alpine environment without the competitive pressure.

A mountain amphitheater

The charm of the race lies in its mountain amphitheater: runners traverse the valley's rural landscape, pass by historical sites like the Colle del Lys with its Resistance Museum and the Madonna della Bassa sanctuary, and follow a technical track that requires trained legs and sure footing. From the top, on clear days, the view sweeps across the entire Piedmontese plain.

A local sporting tradition

Organized by A.P.D. Sportinsieme Val della Torre, the marathon has grown edition after edition, becoming a benchmark for trail runners in Piedmont. The organizational machine involves the municipal administration and numerous local volunteer groups—ANA, AIB, CAI, Red Cross, and the Pro Loco—who secure the trails, manage aid stations, and ensure safety along the entire route. The event is sponsored by the Metropolitan City of Turin and approved by FIDAL Piedmont.

Alpine Marathon — edition 2026

The 16th edition of the Val della Torre Alpine Marathon took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, starting at 8:00 AM from the sports hall. The race featured the three classic routes: 42 km marathon (2,600 m D+), 22 km half-marathon (1,550 m D+), and 11 km non-competitive trail (350 m D+), through the ridges and forests of Val Casternone.

The 16th edition of the Val della Torre Alpine Marathon was held on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The format with three tracks was confirmed: the 42 km marathon with 2,600 m of positive elevation gain, the 22 km half-marathon (1,550 m D+), and the 11 km non-competitive trail (350 m D+). The race, valid as a regional trail event, was approved by FIDAL Piedmont.
